I will pay more for an internet that doesn't have this guy on it.

I just want to say that I was arguing against the point of view and not attacking the person who posted it. What PuckStopsHere articulated (and others have expressed from time to time here) is a familiar viewpoint, one that is particularly popular with Naderites. It is sentiment that many of us who lean left (including me in my darker moments) have considered at times, especially after electoral defeats like the one we just had, so I understand the feeling. And I fully realize that it was less a genuine proposal and more an expression borne of frustration. (So I'm cool with PSH and zip, and I hope they are with me.) But speaking as a member of the socioeconomic demographic (older rural white males with incomes in the bottom fifth of the pop.) that was being derided in several posts on the page, I presented a point of view of someone who would be directly impacted if progressives and liberals ever did adopt the approach that PSH described. I know that in reality few if any of us would ever do that (just pick up our ball and go home). I expressed the feelings of someone such as me who would be readily affected if all of our push back against the right was dropped and they were left free to run amok without any opposition. We cannot let that happen. We cannot give up.

SIR. I want you to sit right there in that corner and think about what you've done.

They'd blame Obama, obviously. Partly because he's President, and somehow Presidents are responsible for everything that goes wrong anywhere, and partly because Fox tells everyone listening that everything that happens (even the things that go right) are Obama's fault because he's a racist uppity usurper-king and we were fools! FOOLS! to ever vote for anyone but [generic Republican candidate].

And No Child Left Behind, which really means give all our money to the test companies instead of paying teachers more. And Compassionate Conservativism...and Free Market....and Family Values. StEF, you are onto something.

The Dems just need to make up painful-sounding names for universal health care, unemployment benefits, same-sex marriage and free college tuition. The GOP will make them law tomorrow.

So is this the point where Jones fans start to figure out he's a fraud?

No?

Well, you can't blame me for being hopeful...

I'm thinking you could just wait a bit, BOV. Judging by his blotchy-ragey-red face, he's going to be exiting said planet long before you. Breitbart the sequel.

Joseph Goebbels' Ministry of Information mandated that all German citizens have access to low-cost broadband internet service via cable as well as free community Wi-Fi. It was one of the more brutal policies of the Third Reich that came to light during the post-war Nuremberg trials.

If Alex Jones ever calmed down and began to look at things rationally he would lose 99.9% of his audience. AM radio looniness is big business.

It's classic Alex Jones, though. If he had any other kind of reaction I'd be worried.

Yup, and meanwhile you make a difficult life even more miserable for the rest of us. You know, the very sizable portion of the population who have been involved, who have participated in the process and have worked and voted for progressive change all along and who have been struggling ever since the start of the recession. Great way to screw the people who have been supporting change all along. But sure, stay up there on your high horse and your comfortable secure life and thumb your nose at the unwashed masses who don't recognize what is best for them, which involves letting you decide everything. Surely the problem is not because you think that slacktivism is just as good as actually doing something in meat space, that you don't think you need to do a better job of making your case, that you don't realize that you are going to have to get down into the weeds and do the hard work of winning over supporters and building an organization one community, one neighborhood, one person at a time. Just check out and let things fall apart so that we have to spend another eight or twelve years being miserable instead of moving forward and maybe getting our lives back on track. Because we can all afford to have another decade or so taken out of our short lives just so that you can prove a point. Because after all, we're all too stupid, and if the whole country doesn't agree with you and enact the kinds of changes that you want then we should all be punished like bad children and be sent to bed without our supper. It's all our fault and you don't have any responsibility to try to win anyone over or to get your supporters out to vote. Denouncing everyone else and mocking them and treating them as your inferiors is just a fucking GREAT way to build an organization that shares your priorities.
