All of them are amateurs and rank idiots. Never send a Fox news talking head to an important diplomatic meeting - or anywhere else except possibly to jail for criminal incompetence.

I strongly believe that it would be easy to find Canadians who are passionate about the American-Canadian relationship--they currently hate it. It wouldn't be all that hard to find Americans with the same passion. Me, for example.

Pete Hoekstra needs to CROAK,and I don’t mean like a frog. He is a useless goodygoody (oh, how I hate goodygoodys!) and I hope Canadians roundly ignore him.

I'm trying to get mad today, but I just can't. I SO did not have the Canes sweeping the first TWO rounds in the playoff s on my bingo card.

It's the little things.

agreed. pulling for the habs too

That's a tough one. On the one hand, Habs fans are FAR less destructive and obnoxious when they come to town. On the other we were 0-3-0 v. Montreal in the regular season and 2-1-0 v. Buffalo. I just hope they play a nice long series with lots of overtime. 😈

Maybe the ambassador who puts the "ass" innit should be replaced by an aggressive raccoon. Not that any of them Canucky conservotives would notice much difference.

WokeGrandma's avatar

In case you have never encountered one, raccoons are nasty animals. One is best served by staying away from them.

Maybe's avatar

They are awfully darned cute though, especially a young brood. And they are only nasty sometimes, much like a lot of people.

WokeGrandma's avatar

Have you ever encountered a raccoon? I'm thinking maybe not.

My MIL was sitting in a chaise lounge by a lake reading a book. A raccoon came out of the woods, crossed the open area, and bit her in the ass.

WokeGrandma's avatar

OMG! Did she have to get rabies shots?

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Oh yeah. Great fun.

Can't say that Raccoon Killer is someone I've heard of. I guess I should have read the National Post opinion pages more. Of course that would mean having read the National Post opinion pages more, filled as they are will idiots and cranks.

Yeah imagine insulting an entire nation and slapping tariffs all over them and then expecting gratitude instead of derision. You fuckers are SO clueless when it comes to anybody outside of your MAGA bubble.

Elbows up, baby!

"a man best known outside Canada for kicking a raccoon to death"

I was once presented with this conundrum. A startled raccoon leapt onto my leg. It decided one of us needed to die. Unable to dislodge the thing that was trying to kill me, I dropped my drawers, I depantsed myself, I stopped wearing pants!

It saved my life.

"David Cohen, who’s now running a non-profit journalism shop in Philly"

That's what happens when you spend time in Canada.

What is it with the Confederate Republicans and the raccoons, y'all

Someone explain it to me like I'm five, please

Captain Kraut's avatar

Well, when a Confederate Republican and a raccoon love each other very much...

Thank you Andrew. Reading you is like living next door to my former state (Nevada). I work hard to stay informed about what's happening 80 miles away. It's been 14 years since I was a Californian again so I have some catching up to do.

On that note I am spending my mother's day reading my sample ballot.

Of 24 Democratic gubernatorial candidates (Swalwell is still listed), only 10 of them chose to make the effort to write a statement 🙄 after agreeing to campaign spending limits.

So that's where I've started. So far I've eliminated 6 of the 10. Three of those remaining are women.

Two popular candidates have chosen to NOT limit spending. One is *guess who* Steyer, the other I don't know at all. I say *popular* only because my son suggested him.

I have plenty of research to do.

I'm not x-ing Steyer simply because he's a billionaire.

The kids will call later. They both have MiLs to honor. I know they love me...

I've lived on both sides of the border, too. I'm back home in California for good, I hope. It cost me a fortune to make it work, but it's worth it! My TV channels come from Reno, so I don't see many California-related political ads. Sometimes Dish Network remembers where I live and targets me, as do the streaming channels that I rarely watch anyway. Guess I'll have to dig into the ballot, too.

pskbh's avatar

I have roku and haven't bitten the bullet to pay for preferred MSNOW. Free news is CBS (nope), east coast/national NBC and a couple ABC. But I can't STOMACH the commercials, political in particular.

I get zero from Reno, except shit clips on day-after, and that's only Nevada anyhow.

The RnR has a quarterly print subscription now too! Not free, not newsprint, but still good writing. Jon Ralston and the Independent are still excellent. They're in Vegas but Carson and Reno are not neglected. I appreciate their coverage of UNR.

Yeah, dig in. We have little time.

Becerra I know of course, from HHS, but he didn't hit my *spending limit *. Doesn't mean that's a killer, just another parameter in my calculus. Same with Steyer. Same with my son's lean-ish. My son is a Democrat in a red county and a professional employee of said county.

We'll spend good hours talking when he comes for a visit next weekend.

Maybe's avatar

I am pragmatic. I am going to vote for Becerra, partly because he does have a solid background and partly because he has a good chance of winning. I am glad Swalwell was exposed in time to write him off--very glad. I like Porter, but I don't think she's enough of a fighter to do well in the current political climate. or even in a nasty election. California's stupid jungle primary means we could end up with two Repubs running in the general, so it's important to support the strongest Dem candidate.

The kids will call late

We're all busier than we used to be

My own Mom' s flowers were late bc not only was I prepping for the family meal she said she wanted -- I was finishing up getting homemade cards out to her friends, lol (I do them through one of the sites w/my own photos 📷)

😊

If we’re talking about Maple MAGA, this is illuminating and disturbing: https://www.thestar.com/opinion/star-columnists/im-an-albertan-whos-been-covering-donald-trump-for-10-years-i-went-home-to-write-about-the-independence-movement-i-was-terrified-by-what-i-saw/article_2a003f93-2769-4509-97bd-5b03e841c966.html

This guy Sylvestre really thinks King Charles is going to assassinate him. My dude, you are not that important.

We need to calm down about the madman with the nuclear codes rhetoric.

We're sixty days from famine, and there's absolutely nothing we can do to change that number.

At least nuclear armageddon's fast.
