Meanwhile, in Waltham, MA ICE agents are smashing Van windows to extract immigrants in an eerily Gestapo-like manner. The White Supremacist police state now "governing" us into an authoritarian dictatorship is rampaging against mostly immigrants and visa holders now. I still wonder though how these people are going to fare after the temporary press blitz times out and the WH moves on to new lows. I find it hard to believe that the refugee support for the SAs will continue to be as generous as the first wave. Refugee support, for the most part, is carried out by private charities that are largely funded by the USG. Since these funds are being cut, and presumably most of these charities don't see SA refugees are particularly support-worthy, reality is going to set in. It really would not surprise me if some of them self-deport back to SA.

Does this fill a Christian commitment to help refugees? Not that it matters if we ease their suffering, but what do they bring to America? I suppose they are very nice people who won’t bring drugs or crime. I guess. But why do we need more Elon Musks?
I wonder if at least some, maybe even half or more, of these "refugees" weren't already considering emigration anyway, and just taking advantage of the US "offer"... their decisions having more to do with economic conditions, or a desire to get out of farming.

My boy loves himself some mountains! And bears. And elk. The cabin my family likes to rent has a mama bear living nearby and if I am lucky I can watch her cubs playing outside my bedroom window. He will sit on the bed and be totally enraptured watching their antics.
I haven't been there since fall 2023 but I'm sure she has a new batch of cubs by now p!aging follow the leader and rolling down the mountainside.

it was a busy day today-
sib and I went to the garden place and dropped a chunk of change on some stuff for the back yard.
8 different 'maters, a couple of blueberry shrubs, a pair of roses, and a pile of herbs- including some catnip for the kats.
Spent the afternoon digging out grass to make room for the blueberries and the roses, everything else got some planters and pots.
Already planning a return trip to the garden center for some more stuff, cause why have grass when you can have stuff to eat and flowers to enjoy?
You need to visit me at ye olde garden centre! Let me know; I am there (almost) 24/7 in the merry merry month of May!
