My experience with this parasite—talking about the cyclospora, not the MAGA health tsars—is that the breakdown in our medical system more generally is exacerbating its spread.
I had a bad outbreak of diarrhea that I initially dismissed as an unexpected-based-on-my-inputs drug side effect from a GLP, got over it before seeing my doctor the next week for an unrelated scheduled appointment, and then had a relapse two days later at the same time my partner started experiencing the absolute worst of times. Partner and I both went to Urgent Care—who will prescribe antibiotics freely for a UTI but for some reason were holding out on this front—so all they were willing to do was direct us to go to the ER. I left without being seen after 3 hours, but Partner stuck around the hospital for almost 12 hours total and while they eventually gave her fluids and did a bunch of tests to rule out everything else, they did not end up prescribing her antibiotics or diagnosing either of us officially (or even giving Partner a cyclospora-specific GI test).
I'm not a "take antibiotics freely" sort of person in most circumstances, but in this situation it felt like getting those would have been the socially responsible thing to do, especially since the timing of this particular bug makes it a little tricky to get a positive test result. And yet we went untreated. My fingers are crossed hoping it doesn't flare up again for us.
Beyond that, my experience has lead me to believe that the reported numbers on this thing are being grossly undercounted. As was probably the point of shutting down the monitoring.
I finally feel well after a bout of food poisoning. I should have gone to the ER, it would have been a faster recovery. Now this! I am not worried... the only lettuce I've eaten lately is from the garden.
Sadly, the people I work with seem fine with this (shit) or even approve of it; this week of going into the office has convinced my I’m a part of a vanishingly tiny minority and might just be crazy.

How many of you would consider this the best day of 2027?
How would anyone who regularly consumes whatever wrapped soft crunch enchirito loco dorito Porfirio dictatorio slag beefio thingio Taco Hell puts out from their ever-so-creative sewage repurposing labs know if they had Cyclospora or E. coli or Shigella or cholera in the first place when the symptoms of consuming anything from them creates the exact same symptoms?
Since Stinky has been back in office there have been constant notices of food recalls. Now some of them are for mislabeling but most are for things like listeria. You see, Stinky, you and all those republicans want small govt because you think only poor people will be harmed by your cuts but how many of you are just one meal away from a clogged toilet?

I do hope that this thins the herd somewhat.
Sooooo....
Inflation
Joblosses
ICE shooting civilians in the streets
and now...this.
But hey, at least Trump and his kids made billions since he took office, America!
Jesus fuck, the press, where are you on THIS list of acccomplishments?

Willful ignorance is a hell of a drug
It's not you who is crazy. It is the idiots doubling down because they don't want to look like idiots. They are.
DRAINED REFLECTING POOL REVEALS TRUMP’S ‘AMERICAN FLAG BLUE’ LINER IS NOW CLOSER TO GRAY -- The Guardian
That's "Confederate" Gray, thank you!
As originally painted it was Russian flag blue, not American flag blue.
I'm not a conspiracy guy, don't believe it was done intentionally, BUT...
How stupid does one have to be not to notice the difference WHEN PAINTING OR SUPERVISING THE FUCKING JOB??

The best day in a decade.
MMmmm, boiled lettuce...
Gimme two!
I disagree with Reba Pousma, as an Italian I believe in the vendetta, and nothing says vendetta like case of explosive diarrhea.
Why would the Trump Administration do this?
In one of the cited links (https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/cdc-quietly-scaled-back-surveillance-program-foodborne-illnesses-rcna227089), Dr. J. Glenn Morris, director of the Emerging Pathogens Institute at the University of Florida and one of the creators of FoodNet, says "If you want to make foodborne disease go away, then don’t look for foodborne disease. And then you can cheerfully eliminate all of your foodborne disease regulations."
To think the US was a global leader in public heath until very recently.
It wasn't quiet. We all knew. I guess NBC thinks it was quiet because they didn't cover it 🤷?
This so much. Lefties and even some liberals have been screaming about this stuff for 2 years.
Where the fuck is the press?
Summers used to be so much more fun before heat domes, wildfire smoke, and explosive diarrhea outbreaks became frequent. Sad.
Wait til Polio makes its comeback!
The sky in Boston today is quite scary looking. https://www.instagram.com/reels/Da0cXCJkY7b
Boston haboob?
Hah, almost!
That's what the bay area looked like a few years back except an even deeper red. It was so surreal.
My grandmother talked about how terrified people were about polio outbreaks every summer.
Yay, with RFK Jr. we have that to look forward to again! Plus lots of Vibrio.
Never been so glad that I'm able to get all my summer (and a goodly portion of my winter) veggies out of my own garden.
OT
I'm already tired of "Messi-mania" and the game hasn't even started yet.
Hey MAGA!
You DID vote for this!
You were warned.
Some of us will NEVER forgive you.
EVER!
Some of us have been unforgiving since Roger Stone ratfucked Tom Eagleton.

Trumpflation and trump diarrhea…choices.
