Indeed he was the father of Shirley Douglas, the mother of Kiefer Sutherland.

Dad's a dick, from the sound of it. My husband boasts about how many he changed. But then, he was Mr Mom while I went back to work.

Holy shit. Like, really, that is bottom-feeder behaviour.

I know, but if you ask a Republican they will always say our health care is the envy of the world. They always leave out the “As long as you have enough money” part.

Might make for a nice conversation with a wingnut. "Do you know how much debt Obama's policies are creating for that baby?" "Not nearly as much as the baby is creating for the parents."

Yes, I had my boys too long ago; back in 1990 I only got 17 weeks paid; now it's 50 weeks at 55% or 485/week, whichever comes first.

Well, yes, I do pay taxes, but even if I didn't, even if for some reason I was pregnant and unemployed, it would still have been covered. So, yeah, I still say that I paid nothing, because the amount I pay in taxes is entirely reasonable, and those taxes cover a hell of a lot more than just the Medicare system. (in fact, those taxes even cover my salary, as I suck at the sweet sweet public teat as a school teacher).

Thanks for this. I'm liking me some Posner today. He's also pretty good on copyright matters. If it weren't for the Law-and-Econ bullshit he'd be a classic conservative Constitutionalist in the U of Chicago tradition, which is a helluva lot better than the Originalistas Reagan and the Bushies put on SCOTUS, and is probably the reason he didn't get the nod.

Also too, he has backed away in recent years from some of the worst economic-test crap, in part, I imagine, because Chicago economics has been so resoundingly discredited.

You have to admit, though, that Kozinski can write a rockin' opinion. I like the one that's full of movie titles. Or

"As a linguistic matter, 'and' and 'or' are not synonyms."

"Undeterred, they loaded an old Dodge station wagon to the gills with the contraband and trawled Canada for a buyer." <a href="http://lawreview.byu.edu/ar..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://lawreview.byu.edu/archives/1992/2/gol.pdf">http://lawreview.byu.edu/ar...

Oh, BTW, second child with placenta previa, IU bleed, and C-section, the hospital wanted an additional $48,000 after United Health paid--and I was the one who initially diagnosed wife's left leg blood clot which threw 2 pulmonary emboli and nearly killed her. When I explained that they were obliged to take what United Health paid (and that they malpracticed), they said "we always ask in case the insured is unaware."

Federal Judge Richard Posner (Reagan appointee) has a perfect solution. Being a University of Chicago/Ayn Rand/Law & Economics/Invisible Hand of the Market <strike>fanatic</strike> extremely intelligent and intellectual guy, he proposes that selling babies to the highest bidder would be good for the babies, because rich people - or people who are willing and able to spend more - will love their babies more and take better care of them.

I babysat for Judge Posner's 4 boys when they were little. The Posners had to pay babysitters extra because the kids were so horrible. Needless to say, one of them teaches at the U of Chicago Law School today. <a href="http://heinonline.org/HOL/L..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://heinonline.org/HOL/LandingPage?collection=...">http://heinonline.org/HOL/L... (of course you have to <i>pay</i> to read the whole thing; this is America)

No, no, everyone, this was just a Thought Experiment, youknow, like Einstein. He didn't really mean it. Haha.

Elsewhere in the news: I cannot keep up with Wonkette's productivity anymore. I may have to subcontract some of my reading to imported Mexican labor. Hope that's ok.

It's almost as if every other country on the planet cares more about, you know, actual <i>people</i> than say, um, making a huge fkg profit.

What's up with that?

My wife’s kid just had a set of man-made twins that were premature to boot. Both of them had to stay in the hospital for a month. Fortunately they appear to be healthy and shouldn’t have any life time conditions. Dad is unemployed has not yet changed a diaper. Mom has insurance but I have not yet heard how much this will cost them. I’m afraid to ask.
