You make an excellent point. Most people are not aware that the Fairness Doctrine even existed, let alone was abolished. Wikipedia says:

In 1985, under FCC Chairman Mark S. Fowler, a communications attorney who had served on Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign staff in 1976 and 1980, the FCC released a report stating that the doctrine hurt the public interest and violated free speech rights guaranteed by the First Amendment...In August 1987, under FCC Chairman Dennis R. Patrick, the FCC abolished the doctrine by a 4-0 vote...The FCC vote was opposed by members of Congress who said the FCC had tried to "flout the will of Congress" and the decision was "wrongheaded, misguided and illogical."...In June 1987, Congress attempted to preempt the FCC decision and codify the Fairness Doctrine, but the legislation was vetoed by President Ronald Reagan. Another attempt to revive the doctrine in 1991 was stopped when President George H.W. Bush threatened another veto.

You will notice that Reagan and Bush were running things at the time.

Hope so. Because once the Revolution's got them, they won't be televised.

Fat, drunk, and watching Fox News is no way to go through life, son.

I wonder how hard it'd be to go and tweak that amendment. Not to fundamentally change it or anything, but just to add the phrase "Don't start shit if you can't take shit" somewhere nearby. Motherfuckers need to learn that the First Amendment is not a shield by any means.

Firstly: no cartoonist, no matter how shitty or racist, deserves to be shot up by fanatics. Just establishing that first.

Secondly: Charlie Hebdo is a racist piece of shit paper. It's not just trolling Muhammad. It's mocking Muslims shot down in massacres saying "the Qur'an doesn't stop bullets LOL". Just recently, they put one out saying that if the drowned Syrian toddler Alan Kurdi had lived he'd grow up to rape women in Cologne. Sometimes Americans don't understand that in Europe there's such a thing as "left-wing/liberal racism" - "them brown muslims don't love our freedoms of gay sexxxytime so I hope they all die".

Tl:dr; imagine if Bill Maher and Richard Dawkins wrote an entire satirical paper.

Wow. The big news here to me is that Kaili watched 25 hours of fox noise and managed to return to sanity. I usually have to watched it with the sound off and subtitles on but, even then it's touch and go. We should start a fox news survivor fund for her with all the proceeds going to the Wonkette.

Who in San Diego would follow a story set in La Mesa? supposedly, there are places east of 5 capable of supporting human life but La Mesa is also east of 805, 163 and 15. I don't even think they have a breathable atmosphere that far out - In places like La Mesa, Santee, El Cajon, Lakeside... Just a permanent brush firestorm consuming all of the O2 (and the mobile home parks).

There are consequences? Nahhh..., there's nothing they say that would lead Good Uprightstanding Citizens into bad actions, like, say, covering a women's health provider in Kansas who, among his services, did ABORTION 17 times...

Geez, if Amurka was as SOCIALIST and DICTATARIAN as Faux "News" says, we'd have shut down Faux News, and evicted Rupert Murdoch from the country, so he could go home to Australian and get bitten by a poisonous lizard.

Oh, that's right, he is one.
