Aaron Rupar reports:

Rep. Pete Stauber indicates there's something gravely wrong with Tom Emmer's health: "You have no idea what Congressman Emmer is dealing with right now. If you did, you would've never made that comment. He's fighting for his damn life today!"

Something wrong with Tom Emmer? Too bad, so sad.

Evangelicals always want universal abortion prohibition. And they have always had post-criminalization executions fantasies. To the Right Wing and the Project 2025 people, states rights only means voter suppression and slavery.

I try not to take politics personally - there's always a talking head to disagree with. However, these assaults on women as beings, as sentient living breathing thinking beings, are beginning to drive me a bit batty. The pill was approved in 1960 when I had just started menstruating. Title VII passed the year I entered high school (and the year I got my first job). Roe v Wade was decided in 1972 when I was 24. During the 1970s I moved from pink collar ghetto labor to blue collar union labor under a government injunction forcing my employer to hire women into technical positions. During the next 20 years I earned a Masters and PhD on my employer's dime while working full time. Then I went on to a second white collar career. None of my life would have been possible without the pill, Title VII and Roe.

A young woman like me, from a very poor family, is no longer guaranteed a career path like mine. In about half the country she can't get an abortion. If the GOP gets rid of mifeprisone then birth control pills are right behind. And they are using the assault on LGBTQI+ to continue to eliminate Title VII. This breaks my heart.

gallbladder's got the bathtub full of anise (and he was really going for that innuendo), and the combine is revved up.

The koi pond has been restocked with fish sticks.

You fucking punks are getting off of the goddamned lawn.

'Bliv is coaxing the cops back to the Aldi.

Is someone going to close the safe?

Christian nationalist pastor Jack Hibbs freaks out over the wave of Democratic Socialist candidates winning elections: "Marx, Stalin, Lenin, Mao, Pol Pot, Zohran Mamdani, that's exactly how they came to power; a little step at a time."

Republicans are whipping votes right now to see if Susan Collins can get a pass to not be evil since she’s in a tight race. Which means it will come down to whether Fetterman is a yes on Blanche.

Spoiler: Fetterman will vote yes on Blanche.

I'm all for the balkanizing of the USA (I'm here in Portland OR, let's go Cascadia!). But tell me how they plan to divvy up the army, the nukes, the national debt, the interstate highway system? These people can't even tie their own shoes, let alone make a national divorce work!

Kid 'n Nipple-Play's avatar

We keep the nukes and Dumbfuckistan can keep the debt.

For people who get angry at the mere suggestion that America isn’t the greatest nation in the history of the universe, rightwingers sure are anxious to break it up.

Ten years ago my response to this would've been "Who the fuck is so ignorant that they would voluntarily give up their rights?" No wait, it was twenty years ago. Oh hell, more like thirty. How fucking long have I been around? It seems like just yesterday we were invading Iraq because some Saudis who trained in Afghanistan attacked us, and while I didn't believe it was possible, the country has only gotten stupider. Anyway, I think there's some bourbon in the cupboard.

Republicans believe that most people oppose abortion because voters put them in charge of the federal government.

There's a moral lesson here: if you vote for Trump because you saw him on TV, the GOP believes that you fully support everything that they do. And, hey, guess what? SO DO WE.

It's seems like a rare thing to get a good "Well, actshually" statement from a woman, but it's nice to see Kristan get drowned in insane poop screed in response to it.

Nicolle leads off with how DOJ 'election monitors' are in Dem strongholds in MI. Marc is on to discuss. (And the fact his law firm is 20-0 against DOJ getting voter rolls.) Also, mentions that it's day 90 tomorrow, starting something called the 'quiet period', where states can't toss people off of voter rolls. (Huh. Never heard of such a thing....)

Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

I wonder what the DOJ election monitors are doing. Here in OK, "Poll Monitors" are only allowed to watch the opening and closing of the poll. We have been instructed to call the county election board if someone shows up and proclaims they are poll watchers, no matter their credential.

Our_Man_In_Redneckistan's avatar

Yeah, that’s a thing. Boards of Election are typically dysfunctional enough without last-minute confusion. Before the 24-hour news cycle, there used to be pre-election embargoes on political reporting because we were still pretending to be an orderly society.

BillEGoatSmile's avatar

My mother was the town clerk in my home town in CT for 27 years. I just remember it being an orderly process - pursuant to statute and the Secretary of State's guidance - to remove people who had died or moved. It was certainly not a controversial thing in those days.

weejee's avatar

With the MAGAts it is an odorly society.

SO not the point but there are precious few Jewish “Kristans” I’ve ever heard of. You see fellas, when you combine your misogyny with your antisemitism, you fail miserably at both. And that’s the real tragedy here.

Do they think deep thoughts? Do they produce art or engage in any creative pursuits? Do they engage in any self-reflection at any point in their miserable lives? Do they read?

If they were focused on any of these things at all I would argue they wouldn't have time to have their snouts up in people's crotches.

I have nothing but contempt for peple who don't engage in these things anymore.
