He definitely liked Polanski, at least his Polish films, but I don't think we talked about his later ones. But as he knew I was serious about films, he allowed me to talk, and I believe he did agree with me on a couple of points, although at this late date, I can't remember them.
I learned a lot from him, and not just about Polish films.After he died thay had an event where people could come and take any of the books he had previously owned. I got about 6 or 7 of them, but not a single one about Polanski. Others were going after them.
I once observed (from afar) Abe Vigoda entering the Beverly Hills Public Library, the new building. I was too far away to bug him.
And, and I once saw Bob Newhart (from pretty close) in the Beverly Hills Public Library during the time they were in temporary digs, after the old building was torn down and before new building was completed. I decided not to bug him.
And, and I once saw Charlotte Rae and (I assume) a small grandson in the Café 50's in West L.A. I decided not to bug them.
What a glamorous life I lead in what the new, hip people now call "tinsel town!"
