So, take away the healthcare subsidies paid to insurance and so some people can afford it, and give it directly to those people to pay to insurance companies at much higher rates with no more rules about silly things like "minimum coverage" or "preexisting conditions". Sounds like a fantastic idea... for the "money sucking insurance companies".

No one remembers the arguments for adopting the ACA from approximately 15 years ago? No one remembers Keith Olbermann yelling about the high number of bankruptcies due to catastrophic medical debts from cancers and other diseases, or sudden accidents, or any number of things one cannot budget enough for? The Obama administration couldn't get the Medicare for All idea to be allowed to stay on the table, and the ACA was supposed to be a beginning, a step forward, not an end in itself. Not to mention, Hillary Rodham Clinton was working on the problem in the 90s, scaring the repugnicans so much they decided she had to be vilified into infinity for even trying to influence healthcare policy or run for President. Does anyone actually believe the repugnicans care about us, or want to replace the ACA with something better? They want to get rid of it and will fail to pass anything close to making insurance cover pre-existing conditions, or kids on the plan until they're 26, etc. This kakistocracy must be taken to the gravel pit!

This one had me cackling. “Trump shat out a great idea for reforming healthcare” might be the most accurate policy summary of the decade. The man’s basically pitching, “What if we take the system that kinda works and replace it with vibes and Venmo?” At this point, Trumpcare sounds like a GoFundMe with extra steps.

And here I am, trying to find a Medicare supplemental policy when I have no idea what I will have to pay for it. If Trump thinks $2000 is going to buy a year's coverage, he's delusional (oh wait...).

I cried all day yesterday. Not that it matters.

Its too late for that. People on ACA plans already saw that their costs were predicted to jump from $600/month to $1800/month when the subsidies expired, so they know that a one time cash payment of $2000 is worth a little over one month of insurance when the ACA plans go down.

I just woke up from a waking nightmare. Aw fuck it, I says to myself. Oh, Wonkette TABZ might be out. But I was a few minutes early. Okay, I sez, I’ll look at this story (since I worked over 3 decades on the Medicare budget at CMS). And … I read one more in the escalating descriptions of HOW FUCKING STUPID AND MEAN PEOPLE CAN BE! Um, thanks Wonkette? Jeebus fucking keyrice. Editrix now owes me a happy story. Well at least I know I’ll get some cute animal babies. See ya over there … I think.

HSAs are great for lucky folks like me with almost zero recurring healthcare expenses, even so, the IRS gets a bit tetchy about how I should spend that account down some more. It's almost like they got really pissed off when I broke my neck and racked up a $200k bill (I think I surpassed my 6k out of pocket before they pulled me out of the ambulance) and then handed them my debit card while still having enough to buy band aids. Let me be clear: I paid 6,000 US dollars for reconstructive neck surgery; my company coverage kicks ass almost as hard as my wiggly toes did in recovery. Now imagine if all I had was an HSA; $200k- $10k leaves me screwed up against the wall for the rest of my life.

Giving people money to buy insurance is exactly what the tax credits currently do. Give people money to buy insurance.

Ta, Dok. No, it doesn't add up. And it never will. Still, some things do work. I made banh mi for dinner with homemade faux gras (lentil-walnut paté) and a new plant-based meat I purchased because I couldn't find the pork-like slabs I usually get. Added thin-sliced cucumber, jalapeño, and sriracha on a toasted whole wheat pseudo-baguette. It was great, and we have leftovers to make more. Meccalopolis couldn't find any daikon, so no daikon-carrot quick pickle. Next time.

Time to snuggle with my Navy vet husband, and enjoy the gummy. Good night, beloved Wonketteers. I love and appreciate you all and I bless us all with love, health, peace, and grace. Be kind, especially to yourself, and please stay safe.

The advantage of a government control health care system is that the government can set minimum standards for Goldm Silver or Bronge accounts. Things like pre-existing conditions, pregnancy care, etc, and importantly insist on a cap to how much an insurance company can claim as "overhead." By tying the hands of the insurance companies they can actually lower the cost of your health,
