I know the video was cute and we all enjoyed it. However, cats allowed outdoors are serial killers of birds. We love our cats dearly, but they do not go outside unless they're being transported in a cat carrier. We love our dogs, too, and all the cats and dogs love each other.
Not to mention it’s not safe for the cats, from cars, coyotes, accidental poisoning, aggressive dogs, and psychopathic humans.
We don’t let our dogs roam outside unsupervised anymore (like was common when I was a kid), at least in most urban areas, for the same reason.
Makes no more sense and is no more responsible than letting a two or three year old child play outside unattended.
And when somebody tells me that they let their cat out because “it’s natural for them to be outside”, let alone “healthy”, what I hear them really saying is “I don’t like cleaning the litter box”.
paul and I maintain the same standards. We also won't have our cats declawed because I see it as the deliberate mutilation of an animal. Ripper has a carpeted cat tower and toys he may claw to his feline heart's content, but he does NOT sharpen his claws on the living room furniture.
This reminds me of the reverse of my MiL's dog and one of her cats. The dog just hangs out and the cat LOVES her dog. Climbing on Dog, grooming Dog, always very gentle, but so weird. It's a good thing the dog's basically a throw pillow and very rarely objects to all-day adulation.
Our kitteh, now departed, used to do this around the animal witching hour (5 to 6 pm in our humble abode). And he just couldn’t stop himself from stalking near the (always?) napping dog. Sorry kitteh, but we literally couldn’t stop tiny canine rager neither nor. This cute little video is … a video. FAFO. We hope he has all the best stalking space in kitteh heaven.
