But more to your point, I think it has to do with Catholic priests having to be celibate. And so they go for those thet they think will not talk. Eventually this started happening with pastors in non-Catholic churches.
And they even redefine it. The First Amendment prohibits Congress from passing laws that inhibit free speech. It does not apply to private citizens or private entities.
It does not mean that trumpsters get to say whatever nasty things they like and no one gets to respond.

Just getting to this, the big thing with Klinger was that it was semi explicit that he's not gay, though that might have been partly to get around censorship. The joke within the joke was that he keeps cross dressing long after it's clear his superiors aren't going to do anything about it. So, either he really enjoys it or he is at least willing to keep it up as a gesture of defiance for its own sake.
