What is the word where you love the fish and can't look away, but they also give you the willies a little?

Drummers, man, am I right?

(Shakes head ruefully) I absolutely cannot look at that hed gif. It's the coral or whatever in the background. Gross. So gross.

Me too, I know it's beautiful, but it very thoroughly triggers my mild-to-moderate snake phobia.

Mildred Downey Broxon's avatar

Snakes can be very fine people. They don't talk, for one thing.

Always Be Ithacating's avatar

Absolutely, the fault is entirely mine. My brain detects their movement out of the corner of my eye, and sets off a loud alarm I can’t train myself to fully ignore. I don’t scream and start running anymore, though.

A fine kettle of drum fish Martini. Garcia.

So, in my next dynamic, moving, educational and gratifying science fiction epic that you won't be able to put down, and will make me wealthy beyond dreams of avarice, should I actually write it the symbolic logic using, tool wielding denizens of the underwater, yet still space faring civilization will get around their home world in vehicles that look and move like Drum Fish...

Yes! This! And they transport through interdimensional space portals, composed of toruses (tori?) and navigate using visualization.

Make it a space romance

Ilaona Andrews's Innkeeper series has such a race. I forget the exact book. I think Sweep of the Heart.

I think I'd like to mention that

Tho they be small in size

Your drum fish draw attention

To these sleep-weary eyes.

How do such fancy dancers

Escape the bigger fish?

I think the answer must be

That they make a stringy dish.

Nice times! I just got to vote against some "anti-woke" shareholder proposals. Rule of thumb: if the 1792 Exchange wants it, vote against it.

Interestingly, the Board recommended against this bullshit as well.

"Bill Maher couldn’t resist stroking his own ego while talking about his much-debated White House visit during Thursday’s episode of TMZ’s “2 Angry Men” podcast.

“I should be a hero for going there and doing those things and saying those things to the president. I’m not the villain here,” declared Maher, who has been milking every last bit of attention he can get from his dinner with President Donald Trump, singer Kid Rock, and UFC chairman Dana White late last month." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bill-maher-hero-donald-trump-dinner_n_6801749de4b0f92ccce18e0f

At the time he insisted he was just a comedian, not there to sign a treaty or anything. It's not fair to criticise him because he's just a little guy.

However, you should praise him for being a big brave boy who said big tough things to the President.

It will never occur to him that it's exactly this sort of shit that makes people hate him.

You know how North Americans are kinda smug when thinking about the fact that lesser nations have to have $10,000 notes as every day folding money because their currency is so devalued vs. the USD?

That idiotic Miran proposal would bring that to America.

You cannot simply undermine the entirety of America's debt by fiat, and force the debt holders to accept the fact that you will never repay them, without suffering consequences. The price of eggs will go from $6/dozen to $600 overnight. Your 401k? Worthless. Inflation? 1000% percent.

History should have taught us better, this same scenario has played out many many times in the world, and it's painful and deadly for the nation's citizens every. fucking. time.

100-year, interest-free promissory notes => like money in a mattress, if the mattress charged you management fees.

I am here to say Alice did a thing, and I am impressed. Tickled, even.

She and Máebh were sitting side-by-side, which is it some kind of miracle, but not what I’m here to talk about, watching a vole run around on the deck looking for something to eat. She has seen me put out birdseed for whoever comes around. And she was prancing as she watched, and then she went over, stood up, and put both paws on the birdseed jar, and then went to the door and stood up and put her paws on there. This did not look remotely random to me. It was, please put some birdseed out for the vole so we can watch cat tv. And so I did.

100% way.

When she stood up on the gallon jar of birdseed, she looked at me over her shoulder to make sure I was taking it in. Same with the door: "Are you getting this?"

KNEW IT!!

She's as intelligent as my Muffin boy. And they look alike although he's blond.

His littermate bro, Bumble, who is very very good-looking, will stand and cry at the tv, hoping Cat TV will magically appear. He does not look toward Mama. Sigh.

"Mine is coming along. I am drawing on reserves of patience I didn't know I had."

"tabs" in your headline i"tabs" in your headline is misleading to musicians. I was disappointed not to find Simon and Garfunkle tabs. Otherwise, great work.

Fuck you, Canadian overlords, who for the past few days have been wishing me a great long weekend! As A Americaner, I do *not* get Good Friday and Easter Monday and St. George's Day and Maple Syrup Appreciation Day off. I am lucky I am not shackled to my desk, my eyeballs whipped until I make all the pixels light up in the correct formations for the day.

Dina's avatar

That was one of the surprising things for me when I moved to the UK—Easter Monday. In my old Mon-Fri, 8-5 job at a newspaper, we only got a weekday off if Christmas (although we'd get off early, about 11 a.m., on Christmas Eve), New Year's Day, or the Fourth of July fell during the week (we also got Thanksgiving off, too). But to have a day off early, like Good Friday, or even AFTER the holiday (unthinkable!) like Easter Monday...to me it was MADNESS. Much better business for the pubs, though, lol!

There are good people who go to church, and I respect their goodness even if I don’t believe as they do. There are good people who run churches, and I respect their commitment and their strength to oppose many things they are told to say and do. There are even maybe good churches, which nurture their flocks and do good deeds in the world, and I respect them as I would any other charitable organization. But the Church with a capital “C” (including those under capital “I” and capital “B” and all the rest) has caused more harm and pain and degradation and misery for the last few thousand years than any other entity on Earth. And still does today, even if individuals are trying to buff that turd.

I do not nor will I ever respect Church writ large. And I believe we probably be a better race if it had never existed, and certainly would be if it vanished from Dawg’s Earth tomorrow.

OK I'm starting today with some O/T that is annoying me. I usually watch several YOUTUBE episodes during the day. I'm able to pick and choose what is available. Lately Y/T has increased it ad presence several times over. Unfortunately I will give these a thumbs down for this. What I will do is leave a comment explaining why.

𝔅𝔢𝔢𝔩𝔷𝔢𝔟𝔲𝔟𝔟𝔞's avatar

You need the ad blocker that works: uBlock Origin.

(On the rare occasions that I run into unblocked YT, I'm horrified at what they put you through.)
