I smiled when one of my college-age kids collaborated with their friends to ask the AI the most frustrating and confusing questions. Following in the proud tradition of James Tiberius Kirk.
so, I got myself an appointment for the new flu and covid shots next Monday - hope to avoid the bugs until then!
public service announcement: donut buy AirPods Pro 3 on eBay - even the sealed box which appeared all genuine was, in fact, a really good counterfeit, which did none of the things the pro 3s are supposed to do, and Apple was then able to tell me that that same serial number has been called in at least 500 times... :/
In the course of my journalism career, I have worked for many publications that could charitably be described as...marginal.
And at several of those places, I allowed myself to become complicit, however unwillingly, in exploiting photographers, writers and other freelancers, through things like low fees and late payments. At the time I rationalized this to myself, as one does. But it still hurts me a little to look back on it.
So maybe this is easy for me to say now that I'm retired, but I'm still glad to see the graphic designers here stand up for themselves. AI must be actively resisted when it encroaches on people's livelihoods. There's a reason the Writers Guild insisted on strict AI limitations being written into its collective bargaining agreement with Hollywood.
I went camping at Leo Carillo State Park near Malibu last weekend. The beach was beautiful, but a lot of sand was gone due to the rough surf generated by Hurricane Maria.
AI writing particularly irks me. The machine tries too hard to sound human but ends up sounding like an alien impersonation of one. No sense of individual voice or personality. I’ve heard of people using it for business emails. The basic problem? The machine isn’t going to understand what you’re trying to say if you don’t know it yourself.
Flipping a coin to decide shit is more satisfying than using AI and you have a whole 50% chance of making the wrong decision. That seems like pretty good odds in this increasingly ai-driven world.
(Rant) All of my life I worked with computers. I enjoyed working with computers. AI changed that. I now hate computers and everything that has to do with them. And the shithead wealth parasites suck any and all of my desire to live away from me.
No, I'm not going to kill myself or anything. It just seems like the world is conspiring to make people give up fighting. The parasites want us all to work ourselves to death generating even more wealth for them. As soon as somebody stops working, they must die otherwise they will waste the wealth the parasites crave. Having nice things means taking wealth away from the parasites.
Parasites need pest control. Full fucking stop. (End rant.)
ChatGPT to Trump: You're absolutely right! With a high IQ president like yourself the nation doesn't need any AI regulation or guardrails. Would you like me to get voter information from Democrat leaning districts for you now?

Haley Joel Osment on why ai sucks now.

Fox News has a new tactic: telling its audience that the "left-wing elites are convincing you that data centers are bad. Don't fall for it!"
Don't trust your own feelings. Propaganda for Idiots.
I am grateful I retired as a lawyer before this crap took over the legal profession.
Ditto me as an editor.
You wouldn't have had fun writing a response to an opposing filing that contained hallucinated cases?
So what gave away the fact that it was AI rather than some generic Canva graphic?

It's after the Open Thread time, so I Open Thread.

As a fellow human, I agree entirely with your human premise.
“AI Slop”? C'mon, it's advertising. It's not a scientific paper.
Except that using it for advertising may reflect on the business owner’s attitude toward employees.
And it may not. It may bear no significance whatsoever.
That header pic. It's that time of the year again!

Fuck pumpkin spice fanaticism. FUCK IT ALL!
Those people are zombies.
All you need are trees in orange, red, and yellow. Know how I know? I lived and love autumn unfettered as a kid in the 1970s.
Some light exercise, or a third slice of this cake? I need AI to help me decide on my next course of action.

Slop-shaming has not gone far enough IMHO

Incidentally, I received an email from Orkin to my work email 🤣 It was offering me proactive bird control solutions...
probably a better option than Oerlikon would sell you.
You have a problem with eagles?
Hotel California is tedious dreck.
Email would be actually useful if the parasites were exterminated with extreme prejudice.
"I felt like a genius"
There's the first red flag. Does something make you feel like a genius? Unless you are, in fact, a genius, there's probably some catch.
"my uncle was a professor at MIT, so of course I'm a genius"
Actual geniuses don't feel like geniuses.

Trump communicating directly with an AI bot is basically the nightmare scenario.
