In with all the excitement around gross child-bad-touchers Josh Duggar (admittedly) and Dennis Hastert (allegedly), we also got an update late last week on terrible human being and Arkansas state Rep.
Of course it has always been horrendous. (Viz. Florida.) Nothing about foster care and juvenile justice is easy or cheap.
What I perceive to be different (and am I wrong here?) is that there is actually a national nominally news channel that is prepared to defend sexual predators and marshal its resources to laugh it off. The Kochs, in association with religious cults, are sinking vast sums of money into assuring that it continues and expands and that creeps like Harris, Duggart and Hastert get away with it.
It was a good decision they made, too. They'd just gotten off the boat after a flood that wiped out the whole world as they knew it and the first thing they do is go and get pregnant, compromising their chances of survival. After all, the plants and trees had been demolished and there were only two of each kind of animal, not a whole lot in terms of a food source. Let's complicate matters with two pregnant daughters who may or may not survive pregnancy and childbirth under these conditions.
Justin Harris as a man is just as pretty as Caitlyn Jenner. With only a few hormone treatments he could be a knock-out of a dame, if only he'd lose the weight and get some decent clothes.
I worked in both private & public child welfare in those years. While it wasn't the best for kids then there were some real card punchers who could be as vicious as they were kind and generous. The most difficulties aggregated around too many kids & not enough $$$ or dedicated younger people willing to work in such low status/low pay job with little chance 4 advancement. The work didn't leave much room for a social life, either. But what work it was...
