Four assholes who are black filmed themselves torturing, burning, and slicing the scalp of a young mentally disabled white guy while shouting things about Trump and white people. We will not be posting the video, or watching the video, because, in fact, we do not get off on torture, get a rush from torture, have a prurient interest in torture that we justify as "need to know," or any combination of those things. We are sure you can find the video elsewhere, for educational purposes and whatnot.
I think the idea behind "hate" crime is that the crime occurs because of bigotry against a class of people. The point of the crime is to harm the person because of their class. That is extra damaging to our social fabric than criming just cause you have a beef with that one person or you need money for drugs.
The crime may be directed at an individual, but the actual target is the entire class of people that person represents. The crime was committed against a class of people. So you should be punished not only for the harm or intent to harm an individual, but extra punished for your bigotry which has real life repercussions for people in that class. They will suffer more fear, a more hostile environment , even if they aren't directly a victim of a hate crime.
(One of our more obscure in-jokes, that. Wingnuts always insist that the media "never covers" stuff like black on white violence, or democrats gone wild. And of course, when they do cover these things, it just goes to prove that they NEVER cover them. Somehow.)
Personally, I think you don't understand the concept of "hate crime" and need to have it explained to you like it's 1995.
A hate crimes can be considered a terrorist act, which is to say that the damage from this type of crime is not confined to the obvious victim but to a much larger community. That is, the "motive" of a hate crime is understood as wanting not just to beat up this one particular person who is (black/white/Jewish/disabled/whatever) but rather to send a message to all (black/white/Jewish/disabled/whatever) people that they had better get the fuck out of town because "we're coming for you next."
You could have learned this if you'd bothered to read anything about the subject written in the past 30 years or so, but I guess that's not what you personally felt like doing.
As I noted above, people have only been talking about this for half a lifetime, so it's a little odd you've managed to miss the entire discussion until now.
amen and me too (i'm the only older sibling though). i think it's made my entire life one of fighting and standing up to bullies and shaking my little blond fist at people who mocked other people.
by reviewing comment history you mean we have to WORK! how can you do that to us!

Trump Voters are ignorant and dumb...
It is impolite to make fun of uneducated, low IQ people. *

That seems like kind of an odd thing to broadcast, knowing you're gonna get caught.
