But Nike (and other companies) are paying high school athletes, and that's cool.

We have to dynamite every connection between sports and education. Fine, you wanna play professional basketball? Go join a privately-funded amateur-league team, and if you're good enough, the bigs (and Nike and UnderArmor and Gatorade) will come calling. Don't pretend that any of that bullshit has anything to do with education.
