Hi, Nancy! Well, it's official! Nancy Pelosi threw her hat in the ring a couple weeks back, so that she might retain her position as Badass Bosslady Of House Democrats, and the votes have now been tallied, and ayup, she will continue to be Badass Bosslady Of House Democrats in the next Congress! She was challenged by Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan, but he only got 63 votes, compared to Pelosi's 134, therefore she will be the queen to shepherd the Democrats through the valley of the shadow of death,
The problem with "new blood" is getting it into place. If you're in a reddish area, how many times have you looked at the ballot and had *nothing* to choose from or at best you could pick the Libertarian instead of the Republican? How many people are in a position where, even if they wanted to subject themselves to the right-wing hate machine, are too dependent on having a job to risk running as a Democrat?
I loves me some Nancy Pelosi. Love love love that woman.
I just worry that trotting out the same old punching bag for Republicans to jab at -- they've been doing it for a decade now, with their "SAN FRANCISCO LIBERAL NANCY PELOSI" ads in every house race -- is making their job a little too easy?
I was really torn on whether to support Nancy or Tim Ryan. I think a white guy from Ohio might resonate a bit with middle america in a way that a white woman who's been in power for a decade and is from liberal San Francisco can't.
But I'm here, and I'm hoping for the best. I hope the talk of "learning the lessons of the election" isn't just talk.
Yeah, he's an ass who actually believes that sulky loser crackers DO comprise the majority of the country (versus understanding gerrymandering and the EC promoting a tyranny of the minority, to say nothing of collusion and the interference of a foreign power) and we should all spend all our days sucking their dicks while they spend our evil, liebrul, urban, coastal elite tax $$$. While spitting on us, of course.
It was supposed to be their big deal, high profile series, but as much as I wanted to like it, I couldn't help but notice the poor writing and character development. Nothing against Mulgrew's acting, but the character was internally inconsistent (as were others) and the writers constantly cheated and wrote themselves get-out-of-the episode-free crap to patch together a lousy storyline before the top of the hour.
Interestingly, I recently rewatched ST Enterprise from top to bottom and I think it was a much better series than people gave it credit for at the time. The first season was definitely weak, as they developed the characters and storylines, but it really was enjoyable- except for the final episode...
We did very little BUT fight against ourselves in the recent election, what with all of the attacks against the Democratic candidate from the left and all (FYI, your use of the term "Clintonite Dems" is kind of a tell, there).
From what I can tell, this "new blood" theme is sounding an awful lot like the losing side in the primary keeping that dead argument going.
We faced an opponent who lied openly, blatantly, repeatedly, and unrepentantly, and paid no price for it...and our candidate STILL won a huge majority of the votes cast in this country. How is that a "humiliating defeat"?
seems to me that Schumer is a much more egregious example of that than she is though. Talk about a guy keeping his head down and kissing up to corporate interests while he waits for his turn...
Indeed, that is where you get the candidates to run for future elections. We had to run retreads or crappy candidates in Senate Races such as OH,FL and WI because we had no one good to run.And as a result, winnable seats weren't.
Which is why we need to turn out legislatures in 2018 and 2020 so we can override these gerrymandered districts.

While you make a good point, I got distracted by giggling over the image of Pelosi sitting there anxiously waiting for your applause.
It's not enough to win anymore, apparently. Is that not the takeaway from the presidential election?
She says blue dog, I say dead armadillo.https://www.google.com/imgr...
Great character, fine actress, meh writing. Tbh, found the series more engaging on Netflix without the interminable commercial breaks of long ago.
Maybe we can entice Chuck to grow a spine if we tell him he'll look better on camera.https://www.google.com/url?...

So- 18 months to organize a primary challenge to my Dem congress-critter from the Left. Message received.

Really over it----really glad she won.
That photo of Nancy P and Justin T is SO sweet!

I was in the middle of some of those "spirited debates." They mostly just devolved to being called sexist a lot.
