So? What's the problem with that? I think we should poll taxes. We don't hear enough about the taxes' opinion on things.

Why are you all looking at me like that?

Got another one. I was teaching an intro course in American government (as a TA, in grad school) about 25 years ago, in a southern state. A friend of mine had invited a Republican organizer from Mississippi (the state of) to speak about, uh, organizing. So I and my class walked over to hear the guy.

When the conversation turned to who should be able to vote, this guy said, bring back the property qualification--it really keeps the riff-raff out.

Hand on the Bible, swear to God and the FSM, he said that.

I'm not surprised. Texas counties are small, small, small. 250+ leaves you with a lot of postage stamps with no tax base.

I don't think these people know it's not the 1890s any more.

Reagan wanted to get rid of Social Security. Oh, how I wish he'd succeeded there! Republicans wouldn't have been able to win an election for a hundred years. George W. Bush wanted to privatize SS...right before the stock market crashed. He couldn't get a Republican congress to go through with it because they knew they'd never get elected again.

Doesn't matter. They're not true Christians. Like Putin, they worship money and power. And anyway, most aren't Catholic of any denomination. Most are Evangelical, Born Again, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, Mormon.
