Not only do they have the highest per capita rate of killings by police officers -- 3.54 per 100,000 residents, why yes, that IS a lot! -- they also have one of the most bloodthirsty sheriffs in America.
Only 22% are armed. But WHICH 22%? You step out of that car and there are only 4 people out there? One is packing then, so you have to act as though they are all armed as you just don't know. Yeah, they're scared.

Yes that's actually one of the most pivotal things in his backstory: he once got a superpowered girl to infiltrate the Teen Titans as part of a nefarious plot, and he was pretty unquestionably sleeping with her. The worst part is, the author apparently didn't do that with "Ick!!!!" in mind; it was his way of signaling that she was a bad girl as opposed to sweet and innocent and virginal. No particular slight to Deathstroke was intended, if anything the intention was to show what an alpha male he was.
This was the early 80s, and back then we collectively weren't as sensitive to age issues as we are now -- it was still far too acceptable for adult men to go for underage girls, provided the girl had hit puberty and was rarin' to go. That's an attitude that has NOT aged well.
Actually, cops are supposed to shoot to kill in that they must aim for the largest area on the human body that would instantly stop most people in their tracks: the chest, where (obviously) your heart is. Two reasons for this: if you are a cop being confronted by an actual bad guy who actually has a gun, and you miss, you’re dead, no second chances & it’s harder to miss so less likely to hit an innocent near by. This is how cops are trained but they are also trained to do all in their power to end a situation with no fatalities, which they’ve clearly abandoned. Talking about shooting to cripple is disturbing & no cop is taught that. This guy didn’t go thru any legit police academy he watched TV cop shows or T2 where people always shoot people in the knee to stop them w/o killing, My one uncle’s a retired cop. I don’t think he ever had to discharge his weapon but this isn’t NCIS where you just shoot a guy in one of his ball-in-socket joints to create a chronic pain patient. Shoot to cripple, pay off families... this guy is definitely Satan.
At least Mercury would have fewer racist, sexist, homophobic dickbags who all appear to be on a personal quest to set back society by 80+ years (presumably).
