 After losing a lawsuit in federal court, and then an appeal, the Obama administration is dropping its opposition to a judge's order to allow over the counter sales of "Plan B" emergency contraception without age restrictions. We're pretty sure that the decision to not fight the case any further will be met with a minimum of freakouts, don't you think? The decision allows anyone to purchase the drug and opponents of the decision say it paves the way for male sexual predators to purchase the drug for girls they victimize, by removing safeguards currently in place.

The article also quotes Janice Crouse, of Phyllis Schlafly's group Concerned Women For America, who said

"It is irresponsible to advocate over-the-counter use of these high-potency drugs, which would make them available to anyone -- including those predators who exploit young girls. Mark my words, it will not be long before we see girls and women forced to purchase Plan B for their abuser to keep them and others enslaved. This is a pimp, predator, and pedophile’s dream -- unlimited access to Plan B.”

We were not aware that pedophiles were quite so concerned about preventing pregnancies in their victims! They are far daintier than we thought! The LifeNews piece also repeats the discredited claim that emergency contraception can induce abortions. Did we say "discredited claim?" Sorry, that's way too polite -- let's be accurate and just call that a goddamned lie, because it is.

CWFA's Crouse said that the administration's decision to comply with two court decisions (and the FDA's recommendation that Plan B be sold over the counter) was obviously driven by politics, not science, asking "Where is the scientific data and solid reasoning behind a decision that endangers minors?" We suppose we could ask the same of the assertion that sexual predators are a primary market for contraceptives, or the lie about Plan B as an abortifacient, but that would probably be really mean and political of us.
