Because wingnuttery outweighs common sense and she no doubt bought into the myth.

So if gun laws are useless because they won't prevent all gun crimes, maybe one of the wingnuts can explain why we have abortion laws...

Liberal gun owner here. Pistol is in a pistol safe, with full magazine and empty chamber. At this point, my wife is a stronger proponent of having the thing handy than I am.

Or any laws really. I know it's a silly inference to make, but they're generally the crowd who likes slippery slopes.

Like most sacred texts- Bible, Constitution, take your pick- I'm guessing it started as a relatively good idea/rule that has outlived its usefulness.

In the Bible's, you have stuff that basically has to spell out "You can't make babies with anal sex" because people back then were ten hairs off from being baboons. In the Constitution's case, "everyone should have a gun" was a good idea when there was a lot of war and rebellion going on. But since we now live in a stable country and have better things to do than fuck dirt, those kinds of things would seem outdated if they weren't sanctified in some distant, desperate time.

I've also heard that such permits or background checks can be accomplished in just minutes, especially with computers. I'm pretty sure I've spent much more time waiting for postage stamps and burritos, so don't you goddamn tell me that's an "infringement."

A bit of an aside, but I heard that even James Bond in his latest iteration had a smart gun with an ID lock. Y'know, like the kind ammosexuals say will lead to MARTIAL LAW!!!!

I'm sure you are right. 40 years ago one had to wait at least 3 days, and in some places a whole week, for a non-computerized background check and permit issuance, and nobody complained about it. It was standard procedure.

How cool! I have not seen the latest Bond movies, but they always had cutting-edge technology.

My husband's family is from Pennsylvania, so he grew up in Gun Country. (I'm from Vermont. I attack home invaders with organic kale and a very sharp cheddar.)

We have a little air rifle, and we have a couple shot guns we inherited from Brother-In-Law when he moved abroad. Both are for target practice. Theoretically we'd also use them for hunting, if either of us knew how to do that.

We don't own handguns or, like, AK-47s, because we aren't murderers, and we'd prefer that even robbers stay alive.

And there were only about 4 channels, so there was always a pretty good chance there wasn't anything on that anyone wanted to watch, so we TURNED IT OFF AND DID OTHER STUFF.

And the phone was attached to the wall in the kitchen.

And the earth was still hot.
