Everyone is clowning on Erika's outrage over the question the guy in the audience was asking who was there when Charlie got capped: "Do you condemn the violent rhetoric of Donald Trump?"
When did companies stop doing market testing before they took dramatically new and different directions? What the fuck gave CBS the impression that people wanted this shit? This seems like a really good example of how the right's popularity is artificially inflated. That really is the power of the right wing media, and an example of the kind of false positive that the Internet can spread to everyone, including me. I'm still unclear on how this dynamic works. In this case the proof was in the pudding. Bari Weis's failing is really good news, but the idea that CBS would take a chance like this thinking it was going to work? That's on them. Maybe they'll be more careful next time. Who was it that NBC hired away from FOX? And they paid her a whole bunch of money to go away? Even companies in the same industry don't seem capable of learning from each other regarding the exact same kind of mistakes. They so want right wing media to be popular, that they spend millions and millions of wish money dollars trying to make it so. Thing is, the right wing mediasphere has been way oversaturated for a long time now. They're just simply isn't any room for more of it. Even when it tries to pretend to be centers.
Conservatives watch only one channel: Fox News. Nothing else. They won't even consider another outlet. Fox News is, of course, owned by a billionaire.
Other billionaires, such as Ellison the Younger, want a piece of that action. Billionaires are, well, not generally smart, but they're aware enough to realize that building Fox News into what it is now took decades. They don't want to do the hard work, so they buy an existing media company and install right wing nut jobs in positions of leadership.
The new leaders immediately push the partisan garbage, with the hope of attracting some Fox viewers. The garbage turns off the non-conservative audience, who loudly announce that they're canceling their subscriptions. The Fox viewers, who live in a bubble under a rock in a deep hole, don't even know that CBS took a hard right turn, so the hoped-for gain in viewership didn't materialize.
The result is that the Ellisons lose a lot of money, which is good, but it's all paper money that burned up in the furnace. If we taxed those motherfuckers, maybe some of that money could have been used to help people in need. Haha, I kid.
Seems like the last 3 or 4 times we've had storms, they came roaring through around 4am. Early enough to interrupt sleep, but too late to go back to sleep after they've passed.
A man suspected of carrying out a pair of deadly attacks — one at Brown University that killed two students and wounded nine more, and another that killed a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor in his home — was found dead in a storage unit in New Hampshire on Thursday, the authorities said.
The suspect’s death, which the police said was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ended a five-day search that began on Brown’s campus in Providence, R.I. The case both captivated and rattled New England as investigators pieced together grainy surveillance footage and feared another burst of violence. The search stretched across state lines and ultimately hinged on witness interviews in Providence — including a Reddit user — along with records from a car-rental agency in Boston and a search warrant in Salem, N.H...
Dr. Paxson and law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, 48, a former Brown student who was briefly enrolled at the university more than two decades ago. His last known address was in Miami...
mit professor's specialty was nuclear fusion. the orange anus media just signed a $6B deal with tae for developing nuclear fusion in us. tae is backed by...wait for it...uh huh...krasnov's handler.
I wonder how these are even connected. The Brown shooting was students at the engineering building, the MIT one was a professor of Physics I think. Related, but not directly.
It is very very very strange. I wonder if the prof is the reason the guy's tenure at Brown was so short
Brown student 20 yrs ago, for physics masters + PhD, drop out. Was in univ with the MIT guy at home in Portugal. Imagine carrying that kind of grudge half your life, and taking it out on a bunch of kids.
"The Trump administration is suspending the immigrant visa program under which the man suspected of killing two Brown University students and an M.I.T. professor moved to the United States, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Thursday night.
Claudio Manuel Neves Valente was issued a diversity visa in 2017 and became a legal permanent resident of the United States that year, according to immigration records in an affidavit filed by the police in Providence, R.I."
The AI tech-bros are trying to jam their crap into everything to build a market for AI. They need revenue to justify spending hundreds of billions of dollars on something very few people want.
Any opinions on the Duck Duck Go browser? I use it on my phone but haven't switched my laptop. And I won't be using Chrome as a main browser again because fuck Google.
Ooh. I'll have to look at that. FF has gotten increasingly incompatible with modern web design but the move to Chrome or Edge would just pull in a different form of suck.
I had been using opera, but of course Oracle is really heavy into the entire AI thing and the browser is basically unusable now. Takes forever just to load up with all the crap they shoved on it. So reluctantly went chromewards, though I am not a fan.
I almost hope a Civil War starts because of Trump, because then I wouldn't have to worry about mundane things like paying bills and fixing the plumbing.
If the last civil war is any judge, you still get to worry about those things, but you get the additional worry of armies taking all your turkeys and camping on your lawn
That letter still gets me every time hubby rewatches that thing. The georgian army was starving to death, but this lady still was sitting on 40 turkeys and however much else food that she complained the union stoled from her. Like, rah rah the cause! So long as I don't have to pay for it! It's soooo very familiar
There was also a shift when social media came along. Before social media, online sites and services were built on business plans that saw the consumer and web user as a customer.
After social media - particularly Facebook and Twitter - the business plans looked at the advertisers as their customers, like radio or television, and the users were merely eyeballs to grab.
I didn’t sleep much and am up really early—got in bed early and was wonderfully cozy but didn’t sleep much. I figure at least I relaxed and that should count for something?
Not enthused about work today—I was supposed to get drafts to my boss a few days ago but haven’t been able to get them done which snowballed on me. So I plan on going in at 6 and trying.
I hate doing stuff I don’t know how to do, especially when it’s not interesting in any way.
The DC sewage treatment plant, one of the world's largest, is named after the geographical area where it is located, so it is a logical candidate for renaming. But I would hate to do that to all the good people working there every day.
Basically the GOP business model
"topics like “Does America Need God?” “Has Feminism Failed Women?” and “Should Gen Z Believe in the American Dream?”"
I believe I can guess that, cried Alice:
1 - No.
2 - No.
3 - That's a Damn Good Question (but under present circumstances, also No).
There. Now you don't have to watch ANY of them.
Everyone is clowning on Erika's outrage over the question the guy in the audience was asking who was there when Charlie got capped: "Do you condemn the violent rhetoric of Donald Trump?"
Here's Stephen Woodward, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKRVGBQrJv0
That photo of Proud Bari with her pie hole wide open should have the caption “I HAVE BEEN SILENCED!!”
Worst blow-up doll ever.
“Ross Douthat. The one with the neckbeard who looks like if premature ejaculation was a person.”
I’m keeping this joke Evan. I’m sorry. It’s mine now. Also Grifterella.
Damn those are good. Love it when Evan is angry.
"Does America Need God?"
We have enough angry old men who no one can do anything right by, thank you.

I think it's simple.

The Trump-Washington Monument
The Trump-Jefferson Memorial… now that one I can go for.
The Metro renamed TrumpRail.
Trump-Dulles Airport.
Oooo, we gots a severe thunderstorm warning until 8am. Wonder if I'll get to hear any earth-shattering kabooms?
Weather like that is rare here, even more so in the morning—sounds exciting!

25 years ago he went to Brown, specifically that engineering/physics program
he went to school with the MIT prof. in Portugal
I knew the brown bit, did not know he went to school with the prof.
Seems so random even then for a target.
Boston Globe report , they were attended university same period of time, they were close in age
They apparently just found it out last night.

Hmmm ... something isn't quite right. Gestapo Barbie suspends ALL visas ...
I'm so interested in motive... a 48 y/o in a school shooting and randomly killed another professor?
Also, it's the Trump regime and I don't trust any version of events from those cretins

poor Firefox.... I used to like the damn thing until it diseased a couple of devices I had and I made the switch to Chrome.
Any opinions on the Duck Duck Go browser? I use it on my phone but haven't switched my laptop. And I won't be using Chrome as a main browser again because fuck Google.
And I switched from Chrome to Brave. Brave uses the same web browser engine underneath but without all the Google and with ad blocking built in.

Brave has some crypto crap in it, but it is easily disabled in the settings.

not me turkeys!!!!!!

I'll be on the right side, just hope we win. OT I recently rewatched Ken Burn's Civil War series, made me very thoughtful.

the users are the product
The "Algorithm" serves those seeking a profit, not the end users. The end users are served slop. It's not satisfying to users.
It is very meta that an online survey asked people if being online was good for you
I'll buy that, I don't trust AI either, always skip the entries when they top my search for anything.
I wonder what the reaction of CBS employees will be, it would be nice if some of their better people walked, but everybody has to make a living.
Think several did walk
Good.
If I worked for CBS, I'd be very depressed they paid Trump off. Not that it isn't depressing even if I don't work for CBS.
Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson signed off last night on the Evening News.
I'll do homework on that, I never watch network news anymore. I've heard of Dickerson, though.
60 minutes even ran a thing at the end of their last free episode about how it really sucks, what they are doing.
I happened to be in the room at the time, and hubby and I just looked at each other
Where the gonna go? The Times?
Like I said, everybody has to make a living. Except Trump's mega billionaire fans.

Trump won't rest until every building in Washington (and perhaps every building in the world)
bears his name. Trump Kennedy Center?
Lately, he's been making noise about DCs golf courses.
The PUBLIC golf courses. I’m betting they won’t be public after Trump gets done with them.
He’ll do it, and they will be public no longer.
Anything to avoid being a President.
Well ...
he doesn't know how to do that
And he'd rather do anything else other than work
AND he hates Americans
Trump-Constitution Avenue
Trump Tidal Basin
Trump DC Sewage Treatment Plant?
The DC sewage treatment plant, one of the world's largest, is named after the geographical area where it is located, so it is a logical candidate for renaming. But I would hate to do that to all the good people working there every day.
I get your point, but we're all suffering with Trump as our President, whether the Magas know it or not.
Blue Plains! When they built NRL, they put the cafeteria as close as the other side of the fence.
