These things are amazing!

Chinese humanoid robot ‘Lightning’ beats human 100m world record in test run

The 9.32 second performance beat the time set by Usain Bolt.

When we go to war with China they'll win in a matter of days with an army of these robots.

You mean we might get health care soon ? . . .

So long as we all stand still and give them two days to prepare.

"...it’s already one of the most cringe things I’ve ever seen in my life."

You think that's cringe? You mentioned Columbia House record club and I nearly died of cringe.

But my guardian angel must have shielded me at the moment of truth and I only fell into a cringe-swoon from which I recovered after about 15 minutes.

So down into the basement I went to find that VERY old milk crate with the very old vinyl records in it. I started the never-forgotten record flip and there they were all together in a bundle: my first dozen records from Columbia House! Three Dog Night. Steppenwolf. ELP. Elton John. Whoa! Look at that! There's War! *The World Is A Ghetto* I totally forgot i had that. Looks playable too. Hey! I got the first two Santana albums here also!

Well no wonder I only swooned. Obviously my guardian angel and I needed to put everything back except the War and Santana albums, go do some bong hits and spin some rekkids!

Sweet Nostalgia! I even remembered to skip the second side of the *Abraxas* album because someone once dropped a fucking beer bottle on it and fucked it all up.

Nah, you want to watch the Dr Who episode "Blink". That has angels in it

MRK's avatar

Those aren't angels. It is a good episode for getting people into Dr. Who, though.

This is a good video showing just how destructive AI data centers are, by using the case of Thailand. One can see clearly how the country will be destroyed by this greed for AI slop and police state surveillance.

Monstrous. I had to stop watching, it's so distressing. Ravaging the land and ravaging the people.

Let's consign all tech bros to live out their lives on a desert island with only data centres for company.

First thing, Tigger is fine and ready for breakfast!!!!

#doesthedoglive

Why I day drink on the weekends...

Me: *hears mumbling through closed bedroom door, from other side of house, with music playing*

"Do you need me? I'm changing!"

*more mumbling, opens door* "Can you come closer? I'm naked!"

Mom:* closer mumbling*

Me:* throws on bathrobe "?????"

Mom:"Tigger threw up last night's dinner by the (big glass neighbors can see in) back door."

Me:" Ok, is he ok? And keep him away from it and I'll be there in a few minutes to clean it up."

Mom:" He's fine, and ????!!!!!"

Me: " I don't want to clean it up now and flash the neighbors' grandkids?"

Mom:"!!!!!!"

Anyhoo, Tigger's fine, I got dressed, mess gone, and he's getting some cottage cheese and blueberries, plus bonus Tigger pics from last names ght.

Our elderly cat pooped on the big fluffy dog bed in the living room. So my wife cleaned up what she could, then got the carpet cleaner and ran that over the spot. That did the job, but then there's dirty poopy water in the cleaner's dirty water reservoir. So now she's cleaning the cleaner: the reservoir and all the other parts of it that the poop touched. Fun fun fun. (I do poop cleaning, too, but this was before I got up).

“Please do not be cynical. I hate cynicism — it's my least favorite quality, and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen.” - Conan O’Brien in 2010

The powerful forces trying to dominate our country want us to fall into cynicism.

That way, they win everything — and they'll be able to take it all without the rest of us putting up a fight.

If you are worried about the future, you are not alone. I am too.

But please do not fall into cynicism.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

Its possible to be both very cynical and wildly optimistic.

That may be my state of mind all the time, life's a tragedy and it's hilarious.

That is a VERY HANDSOME cat! Wonders he is beautiful! I could stare at him all day!

I got to my 9:15 hair appointment and my stylist was surprised to see me. She looked at her book and it turned out my appointment is at 11:15. Glad I brought Termite with me so here we are, chilling in the car at evil Starbucks.

WEAK SAUCE BRO

Not getting a soundcheck sucks but don't make it the audience's problem.

Memories of my wacko Xtian aunt whose TV was locked on Trinity Broadcasting and she was endlessly glued to the set watching grifting Pulpit Pimp after Pulpit Pimp. Of course Jesus told her to tithe her Social Security check to TBN...and when she was named Grandma's conservator she grabbed all of Grandma's savings and gave it to those crooks.

I can never forgive her for that.

josephebacon's avatar

And when it comes to Trinity Broadcasting do not forget that ol' Helmet Head Paul Crouch was getting some side action from his ripped bodybuilder stud...and Helmet Head gave his side stud $400,000 in hush money...and that all blew up in public.

Didn't stop marks like my wacko Aunt from still sending money to those grifters...

Wacko Xtian aunties are the life's blood of those crooks. One of the downsides of liberty is that people are free to do dumb shit.

Do you like science fiction? I really liked Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. The protagonist is an AI that used to be a space warship but is now just inhabiting a single biological body.

Steig Larsson Girl with the dragon tattoo, Girl who play with fire, Girl who kicked the hornets nest. Each book stands alone, but there is also a story arc that encompasses all three books.

Favorite recently read book, non-fiction Madame Fourcade's Secret War, she led the largest French resistance group during WWII.

Novel: Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Keysey, you can tell it was written by someone who knows western Oregon. A tip for this book: it's a slow 80-100 pages to start, the main characters are on opposite coasts, this is the set piece before the action begins. Once I got past that point, I couldn't put the book down. I was late for stuff.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

What sort of genres do you like?

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

If you like dense books on the economics of global security policy through the lens of naval power, "The Cost of Sea Power" will probably scratch that itch.

Or I've still not made it past the first chapter of "The theory and practice of Socialism" from the 1930's. Its a bit dry.

Have you read any Hornblower?

Do you like movies about gladiators?

MRK's avatar

If you aren't one of those "I don't read fantasy" people and haven't read anything by N. K. Jemison, find some of her stuff. Haven't read one yet I didn't like.
