Lately the big worry about this admin has been about tariffs, at least for the investor class.

The tariffs are mostly crazy. Grow coffee in Wyoming?

But the economy is not the foundation of a nation. The state is the foundation on which the economy rests. The foundation in the US is beginning to develop cracks.

How long before armed, uniformed, troops from different branches of govt confront each other?

California state police vs FBI or National Guard ?

Little bit of irony: the US govt today has more in common with the govt of 1776 Britain than does the Britain of today. No one in the UK can scatter pardons like they were confetti, but only to their supporters. The EVOLVED Constitutional Monarchy in the British Commonwealth, and those in Sweden, Denmark, and Holland have proved superior to the Monarchy designed by a Committee.

What does King Charles do, if he did nothing else? He has no executive power but holding the position blocks a politician who would like to rule as a monarch.

McCarthy, Nixon, and now the weirdest Black Swan. The Western Monarchies have had problems but not like these.

Have to close with a quote from John Heineman: 'Nixon was Socrates compared to Trump'

How cool it is to be able to create any kind of position you want, and hire as many people as you want... as many law enforcement staff as you want, and create as many committees as you want, and do away with any funding you want, and still call this a "democracy". Seems more like our gov't is acting more socialist than democratic. They seem to have all the money they need to do whatever the fuck they want, and can make or break absolutely any programs they want. Boy, isn't totalitarianism fun! We should be back to a Civil War era government any time now!

Is it me or does it feel like nobody is flying the plane anymore. There are so many tragic consequences of Trump entering politics. People have died and are dying because of his policies. He separated terrified children from their poor parents, when all those people had in the world was each other. He and his trolls encouraged people to distrust science and medicine. He arbitrarily fired thousands of people, leaving countless positions and organizations understaffed. He defunded organizations. He attacked media outlets and universities and museums and public schools. He’s alienated America and Americans from our allies and friends. His policies are cruel, clumsy, destructive and foolish. He attacked the media and claimed all of it was “fake news” simply because the reports were unflattering, embarrassing or inconvenient.

All of it is horrific, and will take years to undo and mend. Much of the damage will never be fixed or overcome, and many wounds will never heal. Perhaps worst of all, he’s caused millions of Americans to distrust everything. Only his words and views matter. Only fealty to him has value. People now distrust each other more, and they distrust entire systems. Systems like the department of education, which is so vital to the stability and consistency of our nation’s public school education. It’s taken decades and thousands of educators and talented minds to design a cohesive curriculum, a foundation for knowledge and understanding of fact, science, history and the world we live in. But Trumpism is about not accepting boundaries, rules, regulations or facts. It’s about making your own rules, your own reality. The danger there is that we function as a society because we accept the same framework of rules, laws, and facts. That’s how we relate to each other, how we are measured and how we find our way in a complex world. If people no longer trust facts, or the news, or information, reality loses meaning. People become ungrounded, and relating to other people is difficult without a foundation of shared truths. Trump is doing everything he can to bend reality to his will. No past American potus has ever come close to exceeding their power or abusing their position like this. I truly worry what America will look like in 5 or 10 years. I’m afraid for my own kid’s future. I hope America is able to endure this era and turn the page before it’s too late.

We're way past "too late".

The die is cast.

The fix is in.

And it's way worse than what we think we know.

I've always liked Freud's nifty example, which goes something like, "I never borrowed your bucket, and besides, it had a hole in it when I borrowed it." That would probably work with a lot of the MAGAs.
