Who gave them the pocket square idea…Chuck Schumer? Hakeem Jeffries?

If those correspondents had real spine they would hold their circle jerk and not invite anyone from the "administration" to attend.

WokeGrandma's avatar

Lest we forget, journalists want to keep their jobs. I can only assume they're afraid to disinvite Trump for fear of repercussions from their employers, who, in turn, are afraid Trump will find a way to ensure that their news organizations go out of business. It brings to mind "Something Happened," Joseph Heller's novel about corporate America.

I haven't read Something Happened but have searched out the audio book on your recommendation

My mom had Catch 22 in the house when I was a kid but wouldn't let me read it - then once I had Grown Girl things to do I couldn't find the time

As for the journalists - I submit that's an explanation and not an excuse when collective action would stop his bullying

Why I distrust most "journalists" these days. If they were serious about the First Amendment stuff, they'd call off the whole damned thing.

Agreed

Remember a lot of the real journalists of WHCA have been replaced with hacks

One of the things I'm actually happy about is how much research and commentary is happening around the so-called "AI" that is being pushed right now. There's a lot of good uses for it, but many of them simply don't make sense or will pay off. I *DO* hope that the HUGE investments in the magic beans take out some of the assholes pushing it.

Amazon's technical division laid off most of its technical writing staff in January 2026. Most of the writers were remote workers. They were informed in September that they would need to report to work in person at a brick and mortar Amazon workplace or face being laid off. In other words, if you didn't live near an Amazon facility, you would have to move your family to another location or a different state. Their work was to be taken over by the engineers who create their business software. The task would be to teach the AI bots about the software and the bots would then write the technical instructions. I'm curious how that's been going, but since my SO was laid off, I have no way of finding out.

Wikipedia has banned articles written by Ai.

Jenvinculosity's avatar

They should allow it, but only for articles ABOUT AI.

Cause that would be hilarious

VaselineHabits's avatar

That's more of why I think they're embracing it so hard - no one to blame. Just like DOGE, "The AI alerted us of this "DEI" government contract" - no idea what tf that meant, went ahead and got rid of it.

"OOPS... Wasn't me, was the AI"

I want one. I am still stuck on "gas guzzler" because I legit cannot afford a new car. Fuck, I can't afford a USED car.

Right now I am going on the "if the repair is still under blue book, it gets fixed" rule.

asmallmacropod's avatar

Don’t feel too bad, the batteries that go into EVs are made with dirty nickel from the Chinese-owned mines in Indonesia. Indonesians are also dying in those mines because there are no safety regulations.

Jenvinculosity's avatar

While true, I am sure that there are people dying in mines for the stuff in regular car batteries also, not to mention the computer components now in all cars, and of course, all the people dying in all the very many oil wars.

At least EVs are not killing the air so much, since people have got to die, apparently, for our conveyance anyway

asmallmacropod's avatar

Fishing communities in Sulawesi no longer have the ability to make a living because the nickel mines have polluted the water, and more there’s more air pollution in. Indonesia because the Chinese owned smelters are powered by a coal-fired power plants.
