What does "try them as children" even mean? Miniature desks? What would be a procedure for "trying them as children"?

I have been looking at that phenomenon for some time now, and also about right-wing "humor." The closest they get is a kind of haw-haw, bald sarcasm that leaves me grimacing rather than smiling.

Ben Shapiro (who is a very smart man, according to Ben Shapiro) had Dinesh D'Souza on his show once for some reason. I don't remember why but apparently it wasn't to investigate the fact that D.D. is a bad-faith polemicist of dubious morality who makes breathtakingly bad personal life decisions. Apparently Shapiro wanted his advice about something. *shudder*

It depends on the jurisdiction, but normally there are a different set of rules, sometimes completely different courts. There's an effort to protect the privacy of the defendant. Punishments are handled differently as well, because there's an assumption that kids will mature and become more aware of how their actions affect others. Frankly, it's still a rigged game, but theoretically it's a little more fair. One story that sticks in my mind is the juvenile judge who was taking kickbacks from the local detention center. Gross.
