Great rightwing thinker Ben Stein -- who no doubt breathes a sigh of relief every time he remembers that Newt Gingrich got called "a dumb person's idea of a smart person" before that title could be bestowed on Ben Stein -- has afresh new understanding
This kind of crap is so common among Italian and Jewish immigrants whose families came over in the late 1800s - early 1900s. This includes members of my own family, so I've seen it first hand. The general feeling is that when our ancestors came over they were treated badly, faced discrimination and had problems with community violence, but due to their hard work and determination they were able to overcome and find acceptance. Because of this, they see the problems in the African American community as a failing of the community itself. They are being stupidly simplistic.
Putting aside the obvious distinction between coming in as an immigrant or coming out of a slave population, they miss a big point. A large part of our acceptance into the culture was our ability to blend in. We essentially looked like the people we wanted to join. Many of us changed our names or had them changed at Ellis Island. We learned the language and for the most part, at least outwardly, hid our cultural background. People of color don't have these options. Granted, there are many more factors that go in to race relations and I don't know if Stein actually has these beliefs, but I cannot see why idiots like Ben Stein can't acknowledge one simple fact. It's a lot harder to find acceptance when a racist can pick you out from a distance and without acceptance it's a lot harder to put your community in order.
Sorry for the lack of jokes. Stein (and some in my family) piss me off.
It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that white America pushed the black American down. I mean even before ghettos white people in America didn't wanna live near black people. They ousted them to their own communities that are purposely poorly funded. The odds are stacked against them and it's setup that way on purpose.
Maybe we can run him through Sarah's turkey decapitator
Do Ben Stein or Pat Buchannan make appearances in Harry Shearer's Nixon's the One? Would also like to hear Nixon (via Shearer) call Fred Thompson a idiot.
Don't forget that he said buying houses in 2007 was the best idea ever, and that recessions were impossible with hand-waving/low taxes/great time to invest. 2008 he got on the air, multiple times, and still refused to say we were in a recession when the DOW was sleeping with the fishes and 200-300k jobs were evaporating a month.
Messicans took their jerbs, obviously.

in all fairness, Palin TV answered, they just hung up half way through the call
Quoting wingnut blowhards accurately is libel.
Stein, to this day, can be seen on tape weeping openly as Nixon says farewell to his staff. Because, you know, the injustice of the thing.

Reporting facts, which have a clear liberal bias, makes them liberal.
