Very encouraging news. Was there a link to the use of water wheels in England. Were they just immerse in the river or was water channeled from higher places to the water wheel.
Also I wonder if, because of climate change, the trees the ladies are planting in Uganda will thrive?
At least I got about 7 hrs of "sleep", after being up for 21 hours. But all night, 2 guys kept harassing me and waking me up. NO not my husband and my boyfriend!
The naughty cat brothers! Running up and downstairs, in and out the door, jumping on bed, jumping off, chasing and zooming! Tonight I'm locking my door!
"Because it is so efficient in handling returns and in light of his enthusiastic support, I am appointing Jeff Bezos and Amazon as Federal Deportation Agents with arrest powers. Be sure to answer the door for all deliveries. "
Trump has one deal, the law says something different, and Perplexity (search engine) has a third deal with the US owning up to 50% of TikTok in the US.
What is so stupid is the President of the United States is fucking around in the private negotiations of a private company to obey a law he passed but now maybe regrets. This cannot get any stupider.
Meanwhile ... all the cool kids have moved over to the similar app called RedNote, which is directly and 100% owned by the Chinese Communist Party.
I think the best bit about the Red Note move is how the chinese government is making moves to insulate the American refugees so they do not contaminate their own population
Did the grocery run yesterday, which was tricky, cause my entire bank was shut down (and there is only one in town so the entire town was pretty much without funds yesterday) but this is why the lord invented credit cards.
Anywho, heard someone say my name and I looked around and there was this thick neck stocky dude waving at me. And I stared at him for a full 30 seconds before I recognized him as our second in command. He was in plain clothes, hence my confusion, for I tend to not look people in the face often enough, I'd make a terrible witness.
I apologized for said confusion of course, and he laughed and I laughed and it was all good, and he went on his merry way. I turned to youngest and went "oh shit, dude knows my NAME"
edit: OH and eggs were 4.99, so they did go up a bit in the past 2 weeks, cause they were 3.99 when I bought them last (we do not use a lot of eggs here)
I think she's more saying she wishes things could be that way because she wants to go through life stress-free. But of course she can't and things aren't that way.
Since some Blue Sky users are now requiring a sign-in for people to read their posts, it would be helpful if Wonks posting the link would also post a text version of the Blue Sky post, for those of us who aren't on Blue Sky and don't want to be. If it's a picture or a video, an explanation of what's in the picture or the video would be great. It's tiresome enough to have to click the link, but then, not to be able to see what it's about, it's annoying.
I'm not sure how to tell if a post is "login required" or not. I have been posting the text and the link. It's not hard ... BlueSky has both available on every post.
Once AGAIN I have given up on falling asleep. I cannot believe how long I've been awake at this point; I'm really starting to feel a bit jumpy and off.
I am not coping well with what's happening here in the US. In more than six decades I have never been THIS furiously angry. And after growing up in a first strike zone in Washington state as someone old enough to remember duck and cover drills, THIS is the first time I have actually been afraid.
If anyone has some encouraging words I could really use them right now.
It ain't over till it's over, there is great beauty in the world and not only is it worth defending, it's worth enjoying. I want you to focus on the beauty, on the improbable fact that we all exist with the birds and flowers and snow and rainbows, stars to warm our days and decorate our night sky. Hugs from old friends, giggles from babies, the coy way cats look at you when they want to play. I know the current state is very upsetting, but don't forget to live. Live in the beauty. You are amazing and beloved.
This isn’t Nazi Germany. We’re armed, and eventually, Orange stain will get his. You’re in a Blue state with a direct line to Canada. You can’t let this eat at you like this. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I am STILL shaking re: J6 Pardons. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
That I know I'm not the only one wound up tighter than a cheap imported watch right now is what's holding me steady at the moment. I was the oldest in my family and it was trained into me that I couldn't freak out because my younger siblings were counting on me to look after them.
As weird as it sounds that's how I feel about my fellow citizens. I feel as if I have to hold steady just in case I'm needed.
Back to the original topic, Ficus trees grow like crazy and can produce a 150 foot canopy in just a few years. Unfortunately, the root ball is 150 wide and about 2-3 feet deep. In 2005 with 5 successive hurricanes hitting Miami-Dade, the ficus-lined streets of Coral Gables were 8 foot mounds of ficus trees. They are now banned and replaced with live oaks
I have a BEAUTIFUL ficus tree in our living room. I bought that plant as a wee stick in a pot from a grocery store that no longer exists when I was in college. That wee "plant" now towers over me; I have to get onto the stool and trim the top so it doesn't start brushing the living room ceiling.
I can only IMAGINE how lush and exuberant that tree would be in a warm, humid area like Florida. I love oak trees but they do NOT compel the sort of awe that an expansive ficus tree is capable of.
I am not sure why we have to re-learn that lesson time and time and time and time again. You would think Kudzu alone would have taught us that for all time, but no.
In-the-black Blue states have been subsidizing these Red states who CAN'T cover their own revenue needs for decades. They do NOT have the $$$ necessary to fight the kind of conflagrations we find ourselves facing now.
So ... two points for your Monday morning. 1. Project 2025's foreign "policy" is solely predicated on the belief that the US can dictate terms to all other nations in the world. This is no longer true. (cf. BRIC, etc.) 2. The UK and EU have not been sitting around for the last four years whining. They know Felon 47, and will act accordingly.
I'm planning on spending around a thousand dollars, some of it will be various dry goods so not cans exclusively. I have an 8 x 8 foot cellar so I can stockpile pretty hard.
According to a prepper seller, FEMA recommends you keep three months of non-perishable food on hand in case of disaster. But they're trying to sell you non-perishable food, so you might want to take it with a grain of salt, so to speak.
I loved the Simpsons episode where Homer is watching an infomercial and the voice says "Get yours now! When they're gone they're gone, limited supply only!" Homer frantically calls the number and asks the guy if they have any left, and the scene cuts to a guy at a desk in a HUGE warehouse stocked from floor to ceiling with boxes of the product who replies, "Yeah, we have a few left" to which Homer replies "THANK GOD!"
Very encouraging news. Was there a link to the use of water wheels in England. Were they just immerse in the river or was water channeled from higher places to the water wheel.
Also I wonder if, because of climate change, the trees the ladies are planting in Uganda will thrive?
Yes, right at the end of the paragraph!
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jan/17/how-climate-friendly-waterwheels-are-coming-around-again
Now Rethug state senators here in DE have petitioned tRump to stop windmills already under construction and approved by voters. Where does it end?
Your move, India.

I locked percy out once when he was pestering me and I was trying to nap
He stood there scratching at my door, non stop, like no pause, scratch scratch scratch for 10 minutes before I gave up
I do not know how long he would have gone, but his forearms must be jacked
Mine would just YELL. MOM MOM MOM HEY MOM HEY. I wonder where they learn this, don't you?
From the other cats XD they let on
From our SPAWN. Esp when on other side of bathroom door.
"Because it is so efficient in handling returns and in light of his enthusiastic support, I am appointing Jeff Bezos and Amazon as Federal Deportation Agents with arrest powers. Be sure to answer the door for all deliveries. "
Maybe,if they have the time , wait around and nab the porch pirates instead.
I have family vacationing in the Florida Keys. They sent pictures of weed despenseries and no MM card required.

This hurts my head on a Monday morning.
Frankly, I'm surprised Tic Toc didn't change their name to Tick Tock and thumbed their noses at the whole thing.
Which billionaire do I favor and what's the biggest payback?
I think the best bit about the Red Note move is how the chinese government is making moves to insulate the American refugees so they do not contaminate their own population
Not doom related:

This is worrying XD
I, also too, have trouble recognizing people out of context.
I'm a bit face blind, but not by physiology, I just do not look at faces o'er much
Tis the social anxiety thing again
edit: OH and eggs were 4.99, so they did go up a bit in the past 2 weeks, cause they were 3.99 when I bought them last (we do not use a lot of eggs here)

I need something cheerful this morning.

I like Muppet Prince the high school boy.
They did a great job on him!
I am assuming that opening is tongue in cheek cause otherwise it is the worst advice in the history of the world lol
Even if they're mean be nice? Noooooo that does not work!

That sounds like me describing life: I do my best, although it’s not always effective

Thanks ... didn't know that. I haven't come across that message yet.
Well, that's good to know, hopefully I'll remember it next time I go to post a link from there.

Focus only on what's actually happening; ignore the noise and distraction.

Keep it together friend. We need you here very much.
Karma usually gives bullies what they deserve.

But we love you, Skepti
I should send you some links to the damned Zoom meetings I have.. those will put you out right quick..

Until it's a red state, then it's "hey, let me hook you up, I just need a favor first."
‘Bus some “illegals”to a Blue state, would ya? Then we’ll talk.'
The red states are assuming this never gets to the FO stage..

Rip of the bandaid and impose bigger tariffs on US shit.
Also milk tourists harder.
BTW, I think today's the day I hit Aldi's to stock up on canned goods, my god, I've become a prepper!
Be sure to get some clams!
Honestly?
On my mental list!
We've began to stock up more than normal. Especially weed.
So, how much you buying? Folks say shit like 6 mos worth, but I ain’t got room for that.
I'm planning on spending around a thousand dollars, some of it will be various dry goods so not cans exclusively. I have an 8 x 8 foot cellar so I can stockpile pretty hard.
Nice. Thinking about putting in a root cellar. That is, if we ever get the extension done at this point.
According to a prepper seller, FEMA recommends you keep three months of non-perishable food on hand in case of disaster. But they're trying to sell you non-perishable food, so you might want to take it with a grain of salt, so to speak.
Oh is that like Food4Patriots (or whatever the fuck they’re called) where they sell everything in 5 gallon buckets?
4Patriots, yes -- they advertise a ton on Radio Classics on SiriusXM and sell both prepper food and solar generators.
"Visit one-two-three-get-solar dot com, they're selling fast."
I loved the Simpsons episode where Homer is watching an infomercial and the voice says "Get yours now! When they're gone they're gone, limited supply only!" yeah, ms said this morning "we better stock up on coffee"
tho the orange idiot seems to have dialed it back a bit on Colombia..

Oh, PREPPER ... nevermind.
Be a prepper, buy lots of canned goods...
Doesn't really scan as well as the original. Maybe we can workshop it.
