Beto is a star to steer by, Ted Cruz had had his opportunity, more than once to inspire and communicate and and blew it and blew his chance at inspiring eloquence.
I base my judgments on the relative ways that nationalism and flag worship are different in the US and Great Britain. In the UK there are aggressive nationalistic movements (Welsh, Scottish, Cornish) and there are also a lot of different flags that are used in official and semi-official ways (the Union Jack, the Royal Standard, the Saltire, the Welsh flag, the St George's flag, etc). The overwhelming factor is that the National Anthem in America is all about the flag, not about the State or people.
Love of country could also spring from indoctrination, just saying.
There are known techniques that use chronic (usually low-grade) trauma to push certain ideas into people. These techniques are very effective, the most recognizable example is in the military: The creation of loyalty and unity in the group by consistently mistreating the entire group.
It is not just the flag, your nationalism is also easily in the world wide top 3. Nationalism terrifies me, I will now trigger Godwin's law by mentioning that I won't mention a certain highly nationalistic western country.
If Donald Trump has his way (instead of getting voted out and then indicted, or the other way around, please, Osiris, Athena and the Dagda) we won't have to just imagine it.
Funny thing - no one has pointed out that the Mango Maniac is disrespecting the flag every time he finishes a speech by walking over and humping.....er, hugging(?)....the flag.
That video made me cry. Straight up cry. I've seen such awful words and behavior from people claiming to be allies that watching that made me feel like Andy Dufresne at the end of Shawshank Redemption. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...
Or baking cakes for gay people, or building a mosque, or implementing comprehensive background checks, or tearing down a confederate statue, or not playing Lee Greenwood songs at half time....
He would have a shot even if he doesn't beat Cruz. He just needs to come close. The US is not Texas.
Although if he beats Cruz, I'd guess he'd serve his term and look at 2028 (or god help us 2024 if the GOP manages to pull their shit out of the fire and hold the presidency in 2020). Otherwise, he has to resign that seat if he wins and the Texas governor would pick his successor, which basically gives that seat back to the GOP. He's not going through a campaign like this to hand it back to Cruz or some other GOP nitwit in two years.
Dok, thanks for this video and your observations - with a little luck, the sanity, intelligence, compassion, integrity and fearlessness evident in the video in facing a political challenge will be, before too long, the expected response, the norm, instead of the extraordinary, also, this guy appears to have the right stuff to be a great president
They could face Nuremberg, go flat prostrate on a paisley prayer rug while chanting 'baby-jesus akbar' and it would just be another instance of IOKIYAR.
Praying wastes matter, space & time at the very least, and makes the practitioner stupider.I have no fk'n idea why people pray, so I can't help you.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.Beto needs to win or we will never hear from him again.

I just made another donation to Beto just based on this video. He is the future of Texas.

Beto isn't taking any PAC money, so if you can, donate to his campaign. Think of the conservative tears that would be shed if he won. :D

Seriously, if a Republican says something, we should assume he is lying and allow him/her to prove it to be true.
