Been out since about the 2nd story today.

Welp...I see the "cease-fire" is going swimmingly.

Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks was born on this day in 1947. Here's the band in 1970 performing "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed":

And here they are in 1982 playing another instrumental, "Jessica":

Went to Safeway to pick up a few things. I usually bring my own bags but today I forgot to. I checked out everything at the self checkout but when I got home I discovered I had left four of the items at the store. It was probably because I was distracted by using the tiny store bags. In any case I went back and told my story, my stuff wasn't there anymore, and the manager said he would comp me the items I bought that never made it home, so I bought them again.

Hi Wonkets. Here is your evening Zelenskyy, I’m rather enjoying outside Zelenskyy; it makes me happy. Oven preheating.

Dad had a big day today- lung function test.

So, I've got some prime rib ready to cook.

Gonna go with a reverse sear this time.

Parakeetist's avatar

Fun will be had :) :)

"M"'s avatar

When I was on prime rib duty at Christmas -- and nervous -- the reverse sear worked really well

Even though I had to sit by the oven like a little chef elf

Does that mean good news from Dad's test ...?

nodak.   5150 47's avatar

this is a baseline test-

the doc's are trying to determine if the lung function damage is from medicine or an on-going issue.

We get to do this again in about 6 months.

Further bovine scat on immigration:

> "The Department of Homeland Security is closing an office responsible for investigating misconduct and abuse in the immigration detention system...." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/immigration-detention-ombudsman-closure_n_69f8facee4b0115dd7bf98e5

* Another IG that could (and likely would) put a damper on the Fulvous Fuckwad's perverse wonts;

* Like with COVID (where not counting deaths made the mortality rate lower), elimination of the person who can open an investigation into DHS implying misconduct and abuse either don't occur or happen considerably less than in reality.

-----

ICE/CBP are setting records with its asshat detention policies:

> "The number of detainees in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody has reached a new record high, surpassing 70,000 for the first time in the deportation agency's 23-year history....

As of Thursday, ICE was holding about 73,000 individuals facing deportation in its custody across the country, the highest level recorded by the agency and an 84% increase from the same time in 2025

[...]

When focusing solely on ICE detainees initially arrested by the agency — and not Border Patrol — there has been a 2,500% surge in non-criminal detainees from Jan. 26, 2025 (945) to Jan. 7, 2026 (24,644), according to the latest publicly available government data." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ices-detainee-population-record-high-of-73000/

-----

> "A group of detained immigrants have filed a class-action lawsuit against the Trump [sic] administration over a catch-22 biometric data policy that they allege has blocked them from obtaining legal status.

... At issue is a December policy change* barring immigrants in detention from getting their fingerprints and photos taken for visa and other deportation-protection applications." [NB: biometric data are required in order to process an application.] https://www.notus.org/immigration/immigrants-detainees-class-action-lawsuit-trump-biometric-data-fingerprint-policy

(* "We are updating USCIS Policy Manual Volume 1, Part C to deter the filing of frivolous claims and provide operational consistency....

The policy guidance:

◾ Reiterates that USCIS does not approve requests to collect biometrics from aliens or other persons who are detained or incarcerated in any jail, prison, or similar DHS or non-DHS detention facilities and have a pending immigration petition or application with USCIS;

◾ Removes obsolete guidance to clarify that there is no controlling intradepartmental agreement between USCIS and Immigration and Customs Enforcement regarding the collection of biometrics for aliens in custody with pending USCIS benefit requests; and

◾ Affirms that USCIS will generally continue to deny immigration benefit requests based on abandonment for aliens who fail to attend their Application Support Center biometrics services appointments." https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/uscis-updates-policy-on-biometrics-for-detainees)

-----

> "Any death that occurs in ICE custody is a significant cause for concern. ICE prioritizes the health, safety and well-being of all aliens in its custody." https://www.ice.gov/detain/detainee-death-reporting

I call bovine scat:

* 29 deaths in FY 2026 (Oct - mid-April, the FY is still young)

* 21 deaths in FY 2025 (since the Cantaloupe Codpieces coronation, three prior)

* 11 in FY 2024

* Four in FY 2023

* Three in FY 2022 (figures: ibid)

IOW, there have been more than twice as many deaths in ICE custody during the current reign of terror than in former Pres Biden's full term.

Notice how he ordered multiple phones for his family and talked his son into ordering the scam.

Not only is he stupid, his stupid multiplied quickly because of his stupidity.

I really liked that bit. It's a doubling-down on how stupid he is with a fan-out effect.

Dad: Son, buy these Trump phones

Son: Buy a phone from someone with zero experience in consumer electronics, especially a hyper competitive market like cell phones?

Dad: Yeah but he's Donald Trump

Son: Good point. I'm buying ten.

The Big Boy markets managed to stay in the green today. Even gold. Earl up 3%.

Everyone patting themselves on the back for the gains in S&P, Nasdaq, and chippy makers.

Me, not so much, I lost exactly $9.50 today overall. My gains almost covered my losses.

Which is the whole deal about hedging, right? Right? Hmm. Brilliant me. 🙄

I'm sure I'll be shown wrong soon, but the chips and tech gains right now in spite of everything

else the 47Pedo is trying to do, seem so much like tech bubbles in years past. And of course

the tech bros don't care cause 1. It ain't their money, and 2. They got theirs.

I guess this is what olde goats that been around too long will feel. Oh well. 🧓🏻

lotsacatsndogs's avatar

The hatred, even among the young, of AI grows by the minute, and I'm with you. This walks, talks, and feeds (not a typo) like a bubble--it consumes and consumes and the results, except for certain tasks that everything from Photoshop to Word to Excel can already do, and a few medical recognition tasks that ALWAYS have to be double-checked by humans, seem unimpressive. And no fun either. "Look at the PowerPoint ChatGPT made for me" comes with NOTHING really. IMHO.

goCatgo's avatar

I notice on line people will dismiss a lot of statements, pictures, videos as untrue by

simply saying "That's just AI." Not as true. But as NOT True. So later when people are

asked to believe something important, when it comes from AI, will they ?

Hello, I’m recovering from my hysterectomy. Still woozy and sleepy . Thank you to everyone for well wishes. Will log off now.

R. Riddle's avatar

When you're feeling better ...

When I was a kid, my mom went in the hospital for a hysterectomy.

I was on the elevator with my dad and there was a guy he was talking with and he asked why my dad was there.

Dad - "My wife's having a hysterectomy."

Man - "I had one of those, too."

We all laughed about that for years.
