I grew up in NY state. Gun laws kept firearms out of the hands of most criminals to the extent that NY city cops had exhibits of "zip" gun- Handmade attempts to have a gun. Most were 22's and prone to blowing off a hand. Now a ten year old can probably get a gun as long as he can pay.
