She may very well be smarter than Mark Kelly, but he works a whole lot harder. And that counts for more, which I see frequently in my job as a professor.
Harper is your guy? Really? I'm sure it looks bad because the problems are centuries in the making, in a large part due to silence, but I will take a man willing to take it on and learn from his mistakes over Harper's iconic statement about Missing and Murdered Indigenous women: "That's just not on my radar right now."
It should be obvious to everyone that a bill designed to prevent Republicans from ratfucking our elections will not get any Republican votes, but alas, there is Joe Manchin. I can't tell if he is just completely disingenuous, painfully stupid, or both.
I've always thought this, or at least that they are tacitly acknowledging they are inferior with their bigotry (though lord knows they lack the self awareness to recognize this).
They claim to be all for meritocracy and bootstraps, but they are actually terrified of being judged solely on their abilities, intelligence, work ethics, etc. on an even playing field because they know they will lose. They count on the boost that whiteness inherently gives them and will fight like hell to maintain that advantage.
Spot on with Manchin. They see his attempts at appeasement as a pathetic sign of weakness. He's finished, so yeah, go out with a bang.
As one of her constituents, Sinema does a pretty good job of seeming engaged and sincere. But then she too often follows it up with these snotty Valley Girl dick moves. It's either a passive-aggressive way of saying fuck you or a manifestation of some other malign impusle...I really can't wrap my brain around it.
I'm all for a general preclearance. Just because a state was more equitable in 1965 doesn't mean the state's not been overtaken by fearful bigots in the years since.
I'm ok with that. Although it's still not as good as HR.1, which is a giant rollback of Republican election fuckery. However, Manchin is full of it, because he's opining about what a "better" bill might be, meaning a halfway bill that would get Republican votes, except it won't get Republican votes, or not near enough to pass with the filibuster in place.

If only JJ Cale had kept writing songs for Clapton to cover!
That Van Morrison song was on the radio last week. It's supremely awful.

Well put.
Ha hahahahahahahahahahha!- the idea of Donnie fixing things, other than in the sense of "the fix is in"
yup

I've actually had the Eric Clapton version of the song referenced in the headline stuck in my head for days now.
(This is in spite of the fact that I can't actually remember the song, except that part where he sings "Livin' on Tulsa time, Livin' on Tulsa time"
Thanks for reminding me, Wonkette! >:(

B-b-b-but she's a bisexual woman! She can't possibly be judged on the merits of her actions, because she's intersectional.
She's awful and I hate her.
It's their business model.
