We keep wondering why maga voters support Republicans when they always reduce benefits for their own base. It’s not really that complicated. MAGA voters are both angry and misinformed. They consume misinformation and they thirst for it the way we thirst for justice, equality and democracy. They love any conspiracy theory, real or imagined. When no actual scandal involving Joe Biden materialized, such as Trump-level corruption, bribery, sexual abuse, etc., they go with the only one they can find - that Biden was old and incompetent and his staff concealed it from the public. This, despite daily reports of Biden’s aging, his misstatements, physical limitations, etc. Naturally his loyalists provided support, as you’d expect. What did maga want? Had Biden agreed to step down, his VP would have then been potus. It wouldn’t have suddenly made the Big Lie true, or freed all the Wayfair mole children, or any other absurd fantasy.
MAGA voters will always vote for people who take away their rights and benefits, and make their lives more costly. Because republicans pretend to be holy, and they tell delusional people that their delusions are real. Trump will add 2.5 trillion to the already bloated national debt. This, after DOGE created a diversion by firing hundreds of thousands and “saving” a few billion by cutting programs people needed. But what they are going on and on about are two things. There is a fight between the neo-cons who want to bomb Iran (having sold out almost every other belief they have to support Trump, this is the one thing they cling to) and the fascist right who thinks we are just doing the Jews bidding. The other fight, which is now accelerating because of Jean-Baptiste Emile Elon Zorg, is the fight between those backing the Blowjobs and Bribes for Billionaires bill because i) It's what dear leader wants, ii) it will give them all the power, iii) they are semi-literate and understand the damage that tariffs are doing, so they hope their tax cuts for TACO's cronies will cover some of that and those who think that i) they have been screaming about deficits for 50 years, maybe making them the highest ever in both terms of TACO isn't a great idea and ii) those who actually realize they may lose their elections when the people see that they put TACO and his cronies before America.
At some point when you promise everything to everyone, you promise nothing to anyone. While most Republicans have been happy with this and just doing the bidding of TACO, more and more are realizing that they will have to live with the consequences and are starting to be trapped in a box of TACO's own building that will damn them either way.
