Starship Troopers director confirms uniforms beloved by Donald Trump are Nazi-inspired

Paul Verhoeven says film’s point is that the characters are ‘fascists without knowing that they’re fascists’

Starship Troopers is a satirical film, targeting fascism.

Though I thought the uniforms looked more like something Star Wars Empire officers would wear.

Reagan pulled the solar panels off the roof of the White House the second he got the job. Hinkley had one job, damnit.

The thing I find *infuriating* about the ignorance level of this country is how few people know this STILL.

STILL.

I know, I know. Diesel prices are through the roof! And, I ought to be shouting foul, but, despite the semi drivers paying more to transport goods whose costs will be added onto us, I kind of enjoy the big deisel pickup drivers around here, mostly MAGA, getting their comeuppance...

Shallow state's avatar

They are not happy. I got into a road rage incident with the driver of a big ass pickup truck a couple weeks ago, and though the price of gas never came up specifically, I am pretty sure it was an undercurrent in his rage.

EyeQueue's avatar

I read a thing that says by 2028 fully-automated diesel trucks will be hauling shit w/o drivers. I'm not sure how widespread they expect that to be.

VaselineHabits's avatar

Oh good good. Hope those truckers are real happy with what they voted for.

I'm betting Donny is going to call on Warsh to quit while he screeds about betrayal.

Donny won't fire Warsh for the same reason he didn't fire Powell: the bully has no balls. He wants to be an authoritarian but can't bring himself to Saddam and lead Congress out the door.

Sk8erChoi's avatar

The way he must slam the phone receiver down on things lol. Also, I wonder which executive object on his desk gets airborne when he's this level of furious. My money is on the Diet Coke button. Or maybe he tips over his challenge coin tree thingie so he can order someone to pick them all up.

eppe's avatar

Why does a guy who never pays his debts care so much about interest rates?

Prometheus59650's avatar

He wants the economy to look better than it actually is for as long as he can before he blames Biden for it even more.

VaselineHabits's avatar

I assume low interest helps when you're borrowing money. I assume his brain is also stuck on very simple ideas... while he's robbing us blind and actively trying to get us all killed

OT! Pop Culture Edition!

Am I the only person who hasn't been following the Ed Sheeran drama? I didn't understand why he and Macklemore were trending the past few days. Now that I understand, I'll ignore whatever "Nothing Can Hold Us" was. Well done to every musician and singer who exited the tour in solidarity.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

I can understand why he's tried to not be political in the past, but it's past the point where that works.

Plus he needs better management.

The Covfefes ASAP!'s avatar

Talking about Ed? I think he assumed he was the male Tay-Tay and thought no one would check him.

josephebacon's avatar

KAEPERNICK: The part that I hope people take away in this moment is what Robert Kraft and what they’re saying by denying Macklemore is they are openly colluding.

They also want people to know that if you take an action that they don’t agree with, they will come for you.

https://bsky.app/profile/acyn.bsky.social/post/3mvnkihrql226

VaselineHabits's avatar

Yep, and Macklemore may not be perfect but the Kraft connection and threat should chill everyone. Especially since Kraft apparently doesnt have an issue with well known Nazi Kanye.

Prometheus59650's avatar

Someone recently said that, "It wasn't up to him." (Sheeran)

Except it is up to him.

Sheeran has a net worth of $200M. He doesn't need any more money. He can retire just fine if it comes to that.

He could stand with Macklemore, and whatever happens to him happens.

The billionaires told him to pick a side and he did. There was no real reason for him to choose the side that he did. Not music. Not money.

He made the choice he did for access.

He had one public moment in his life where he was asked to show the world who he is.

He did.

VaselineHabits's avatar

I'm proud of those who actually risked money and their jobs to back Macklemore.

I think it's NUTS people are fighting about “not killing babies/school girls” is somehow antisemitic. We're so fucking dumb

Elviouslyqueer's avatar

It's not just Kraft, although he's the most egregious one. A whole bunch of other stadium and arena owners also fell in lockstep (almost said goosestep but...). So yea, it's collusion all the way down.
