I'm not at war with anyone, so why don't YOU say hi.

I said the guy wrote occasionally for Wapo. That's a fact, not bragging. Also, I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling donut about what the room wants. Note that I said 'Radical Quebecois," not all Quebecois.

Being bilingual IS great. But not at the expense of being able to graduate from school, getting a job, or being involved in politics. Not just in Quebec, but the whole of Canada.

Either Canada has a whole lot of uneducated, unemployed Canadians because of Quebec, or everyone speaks French because of Quebec, or you are making sweeping argument not grounded in reality.

It's not radical to want to preserve your language, or your culture, right?

Tell the war room I say

hi

Or passed through reconciliation on a party line vote if those two get off their asses and vote for it.

As much as we are trying to turn our city "blue", Anchorage just elected a "marriage between a man and a woman is the only union to which the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage shall be extended or assigned” as the new Mayor.

As bad as the other parts of the GA voter suppression bill were, moving the powers to call elections out of the hands of local officials/SoS and concentrated in the hands of one person really scares me. This scares me as well. We all know what would have happened in 2020 if those laws were in place and these authoritarian nutjobs were in positions of power.

We can never relax on Election Day again. We (the sane citizens of the USA) must turn out in massive numbers for every election, or the lunatics will win those elections. 1994, 2010, and 2014 can never be allowed to happen again.

I have ALWAYS said that the first disqualifier for public office should be a desire to hold a public office. I am all-in for a random lottery for congress and president - all eligible voters. FFS we couldn’t do worse.

The problem I see is that most normal, rational people either feel unqualified for public office, or wouldn't want the job.

In one of my childhood comic books, set in a future where humanity had spread out over many planets (Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes, to be precise--Superboy could travel to the future under his own power at that time), one of the Legionnaires' homeworlds drafted citizens--not for the military, but to run for political office. One of the Legionnaires, who came from that world, was obliged to resign from the Legion in that story, because he had been drafted under that law.

10 years ago I was asked to run in a non-partisan local election by the local Democrats, for some little office in the town where I live. It was all fun and games until I got gang interviewed by the leaders of the local Dems. One of them asked me what church I went to and I said I don't, but I do go to Glacial Park, which is a big natural area with a blueberry bog, big gravel hills called kames and drumlins that were created by the Wisconsonian glacier as it was leaving. They did not pick me, the godless heathen who thinks nature is better than any church.

I read about that. Sickening.Brought back memories of a very good friend of mine who was shoved onto the tracks the night before he was to leave for Europe. In his case it was definitely a hate crime (he was Jewish).
