I had a most excellent day. I actually got up with my alarm and had time to run by the bank and the library on my way to the Silver Sneakers exercise class at LA Fitness. The only parking at the bank was on the street so I actually parallel parked. Not bad for someone who stopped driving in June and who has only been back at it for a week! Then I drove to have lunch with my Mom and I was able to beat rush hour home. Had lemon pepper wings for dinner. Played with the cat. Now I'm watching this most excellent MNF game in my pajamas. Good times.

OpenAI just ran an ad targeting the disability community, pitching that it could help.

OH FUCK NO. this is a janky ass robot that thinks people have six fucking fingers.

DO NOT FUCK with that community. They have lawyers that will fuck you right the fuck up.

"...people who cared about immigration knew they had to do something eye-catching that would get covered — such as a mass march to the border crossing followed by a mass application for asylum."

With all due respect, why would people who cared about immigration think this tactic would work? They knew they were dealing with ignorant, fearful people who were told to be afraid of immigrant hordes, and they gin up a caravan to do... what? Allay their fears? That was never going to work.

My insurance company uses Uber and Lyft for the Med Rides. One trip to see the surgeon, my Lyft driver was listening to Ozzy Osbourne "Bark at the Moon" when I got in the car. I remarked that this was a tape I had to buy in secret and listen to only on headphones when I was a kid, the parents Would Not Approve.

The driver replied that he was older than Ozzy and Elvis when they passed, and figured he was next.

How does one reply to such?

Thinks for a moment.

Don't do what Elvis and Ozzy did?

I like cats as much as the next person, probably more, but why does Substack suddenly decide all I am allowed to see is pictures of kitties?

It’s especially unnerving because I am currently on a break from Mr. F, staying in a little tiny Airbnb in Asheville, a couple hours away from our house in Charlotte. This evening he called and said our 18-year-old cat had gone outside to lie in the sun, which, no, and then allowed that he wasn’t sure if she had come back in, and now he’s not answering his phone. If anyone’s wondering why we’re on a break, see above.

Fine by me. No one wants to play there now anyway. Let it sit idle for the next two years and then finish the remodeling once he’s gone.

"All glory is fleeting".

In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Demigod-King learns that the only immortality available to humanity is the legacy of what we build. It starts and finishes with Gilgamesh reflecting that he built Uruk, the great and first city.

Trump does seem aware that he has built nothing good.

Unless he croaks - which he undoubtedly will - before then.

And we will slowly fix the various monuments, and knock down anything that It half-builds along the way. With great gusto!

People around me have suggested something called a Happylight to battle Seasonal Affective Disorder, or just the plain old holiday blues, should they arise. Apparently, it's effective.

I have no idea why, but I am in a mood to start Christmas shopping for Mrs. Hero. I have several gifts in mind, just gotta remember to write 'em down, because I have Swiss cheese for a memory.

We checked with the kids, and suggested we just get them gift cards this year, unless we stumble upon something we think would be an extraordinary gift. For example, Oldest Lad, 17, has a car and a license, so gift cards to Auto Zone and/or a local gas station might be to his liking. The kids were okay with it.

So off I dig, because shopping moods never last long with me.

I have one of those lights, and if I could remember to turn it on I’m sure it would help.

My wife and I have an Amazon Christmas list that we put things in all year. How it works is you drop something in your own list but you can never look at it... you can only look at the other person's list. You almost completely forget everything you put in, so you are surprised when you get something and then you can have a game about when or even why you put it on the list in the 1st place. Makes you careful with your wishes...

On the other hand, it's Amazon.
