This is the same Chapter and Verse that we get from Susan Collins, who furolls her brow and talks loftily of assuances from Supreme Court sex pests that they would never ever overturn Roe V Wade. As a Republican she ought to know better. They all lie. All the time.

"He fucked us all to save his own skin, and ended up bloody and skinless anyway." One of the most excellent sentences I've ever read.

Ta, Robyn. Would someone please explain to Dr. Cassidy that actions have consequences?

David Crass's avatar

The last three words of the Declaration of Independence: “our sacred honor.” Cassidy sacrificed his for a supposed political future, and unsurprisingly to 75 MM of us, wound up with neither.

Hmm. Why am I seeing a bunch of "nothing ever happens" people around now?

I think we should go back to that time Sherman marched to the sea and these goddamned rebels couldn't sit in Congress.

Fun fact: A condition for readmission to the union was that the Confederate states ratify the 14th Amendment. Let's remind them of that.

What I’m reading into this is that I should live off of confetti cake.

The CDC and the entire American public health system enjoyed absolute trust from the vast majority of Americans until 2020, when Mr Trump and his minions began lying about it, lying about Robert Fauci, lying about Ivermectin and all the other medicinal quacks who supported him. For anyone in the Republican party to claim that it's essential for the public health system to regain the public trust, they first have to admit that they are the ones who destroyed that trust deliberately.

70% of Repugs still support Trump. They're intent on destroying their party.

It’s a death cult, and they’d like to drag us all along.

“Apparently, despite his rapidly declining popularity (polling at a 37 percent approval rating), Trump still has enough clout to pull this off.“

It’s simple to understand this situation.

The quoted approval rating is for the entire population of the country, or at least eligible voters or likely voters.

Trump’s approval rating among actual Republican primary voters in Louisiana (and elsewhere) is still in the 90s.

As we know, primary voters are the most partisan, and in the case of Republican, they’re also the most craven, the stupidest, and the most likely to do whatever their Personal Jesus Hitler tells them to do.

>> first sitting Republican senator to lose renomination in nearly a decade.

Just curious. Tried Googling, and the most recent before Cassidy that I see it Dick Lugar, in 2012 (slightly more than a decade). Am I forgetting someone?

I think the media and most of my fellow liberals spend entirely too much time thinking about Bobby Roadkill, Jr.

bjkeefe's avatar

Strong disagree. The damage he is doing to the nation's health is monumental, both short and long term.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

He's gotten rid of pretty much every key agency head and career scientist he can find. the damage is incalculable. The latest is the head of National Institute on Allergy and Infectious disease. Right when Hantavirus AND ebola are in the headlines.

Dude is responsible for getting people killed.

What A Debacle's avatar

He's a crank and crackpot.

The only people who follow his weird recommendations were surely already in the nutjob camp. And while he has cut some funding, it will be restored soon.

He's un-elected, so there's nothing you can do but wait for the MAGA fever to break.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

That is a dangerously narrow view of what the director of HHS is responsible for.

What A Debacle's avatar

I'd say it is a pragmatic view. Nothing we can do. He will be gone when Trump tires of his act.

Notice Trump is keeping his hands off the Texas GOP Senate runoff. I can't decide if this is because Cornyn voted to acquit Trump both times he was impeached, or because the race is so close that Trump is scared of endorsing a loser.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Cornyn has the support of establishment republicans, whereas Paxton is more popular with his MAGA base. He’ll wait until one of them wins the runoff.
