America learned Monday night that, shocker of all shockers, when you're starting to lose count of how many women have accused Bill Cosby of drugging and raping them, there's PROBABLY a grain of truth in the story, or at least enough truth to fill a date-rape pill capsule. Looking at the
And again, it has to be said over and over that sex in itself is not what rapists want; they want control, they want to dominate, they want to frighten & terrorize. So it's not necessary to have available sex partners because sex is not the motivator for rapist criminals. Now, do we have that down? Any more questions about raper motivations? No? Good.
As others have noted, rape is not about sex. It is about control and power. If we're following your logic that makes it even WORSE, given that Bill Cosby has no shortage of "legitimate" outlets for his urge for power/control in life. The fact is, as with all rapists, he clearly gets off specifically on the power that comes with denying his victims the ability to consent and putting them fully under his control.
I came to say something about how funny it is that all these women have the same claim about one man doing the rape on them and yet how fervently everyone believes they're just opportunistic wimminz going after A Good Man...and here, on our Wonket, are tons of mens sexplaining to the ladies what rape is (rape is never actually done by a man, ever, it's just something wimminz claim for attention and money and also to increase the number of castrati in the world).
I suggest you read Jon Krakauer's latest book, "MIssoula". It delves into many of these tragic misconceptions you mention, among them the different ways women actually react to getting raped by an acquaintance-as opposed to popular mythology, the money/notoriety angle, and the sad little trope that people like stud campus athletes are so awash in sexual opportunity that they have no incentive to be rapists. It was a revealing book; you could stand to absorb a great deal of it.
Hey, it's like Whoopie said: it was the 80's. Lots of people had wild, crazy times. Some of them involved massive amounts of blow, some of them involved massive amounts of rape. Also, too, one time a bunch of people called Whoopie mean names, ipso facto ergo QED all those women are lying about Cosby.
I felt the same way...a gut-wrenching read. I considered myself fairly progressive in my views about the subject, but the book was an eye opener that challenged what seemed to be simple common sense assumptions. Of course, this information isn't exactly brand new, but I think it helps that a popular and respected writer has tackled the subject. I think most people would benefit from reading it.

Also, you're not an asshole for "not jumping on the wagon" for two reasons.
1) you are jumping on a wagon and its full of MRAs2) you're an asshole for sounding like a typical mouth breathing MRA.
(Completely valid) BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRN!

MRA?
Mens Rights Advocates, AKA assholes.
Men's Rights Activists. Be careful, they may hear us and come to mansplain to us how these women are liars and whores.
I wonder if his four adult daughters are speaking to him.
Anyone remember the Fat Albert prison rape episode? Yikes.
