Being an old, white, rich, male he has learned that he is largely immune to the various troubles of the world. he doesn't feel threatened by the virus, and so - in his mind - he is not.
He may be surprised to find that he is not. I'd wager that since he is immune (narrator: he is not immune) he's not taking proper precautions, if he even understands how they work.
Can you please give us an idea of what your reaction to baby boomers with health problems would be like? Would it involve an obligation to wear bells when out in public?
It's similar to what we're doing now, I just have zero faith we'd do the same for any other demographic group. Suggesting we not leave wage workers to die doesn't mean we spend LESS time caring about older people, it means we spend MORE time caring about wage workers. "Caring if someone lives or dies" isn't pie, more for someone else doesn't mean less for you.
Or in another context, "I don't want to be Debbie Downer, BUT....."
When you hear/read that, you can bet your assets something on the order of "we might as well all just die now" is sure to follow. DD barges right into the room and takes a poop in the punch bowl.
Cat update: 'delia is home from the vets, sporting a purple leg bandage and an insouciance that was not there yesterday. Slept most of the day at the vet's office; so lethargic that I drove home with her resting snugged up on my chest. (She had pee'd up her carrier so much that they brought her out wrapped in a towel, and the cat snugli wrapped in a plastic bag.) She was pretty much out of it on the drive, but when I stopped stroking her chin she'd lean into my hand. We're both wiped out, but I don't think she's going anywhere anytime soon.
Thank you, Wonkers, for holding my hand while I waited in the parking lot for my phone to ring with the news.https://uploads.disquscdn.com/image...
I'd prefer "slowly in horrible pain" personally...
...with votes..
Glad we're on the same page, and hopefully we fix that when this is all over
Likewise!
For people who don't believe in evolution, they're quite fond of Social Darwinism.

I suspect that depends on how many investments and how much life insurance Nana and Pop Pop have.
Or how chugging straight bleach doesn't protect you from corona virus?

I live in the Midwest and you sound like you're looking forward to it.

Now that's a job I'd have to be pretty desperate to accept.
Do any of them own a mirror?
I suspect that it wasn't your intent to make us laugh, but dang, that's a sweet sample of snark there.
