Fact: Richie Rich's nose has always weirded us out. His freakish little feet, too. Robert Mercer, the gazillionaire model train enthusiast, hedge fund manager, and early funder of the career of Steve Bannon, announced in a letter to employees Thursday that he'd be stepping down as co-CEO of the Renaissance Technologies hedge fund as of January 1. He'll also be giving up his ownership stake in Dead Breitbart's Home for Nervous White People, selling his portion of the rightwing media site to his daughters. In an apparent departure from the traditional text for this sort of thing, he didn't distribute the portions of Breitbart ownership based on how effusively each daughter said she loved him, because he's a rich libertarian SOB and has no use for either love or Shakespeare.
Mr. Mercer would have more freedom and time to devote to his philanthropy
Philanthropy? Philanthropy?!?1? What in the actual fuck has Mercer EVER done that is philanthropic?? Does the NYT actually not know that Big-L Libertarianism is the antithesis of philanthropy?
I was prompted to make a new password w/discus. I'm not sure why as I had my Kindle memorize my old discus password. It seems to be suspicious timing. Russian trolls -Ha.
He and his brother balk at paying taxes to fund the NIH, CDC, etc. but love to fund the charities if they put their name on a shiny building like The Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT. It has to have the the Koch brand name so that everyone can marvel at their adherence to noblesse oblige.
I was referring to the two as separate ideologies that are united in the modern GOP. I am aware of Rand's atheism (she was very vocal on the subject) which is why I find Paul Ryan (a catholic) as the keynote speaker at the Rand conference and her following among the christian GOP members so weird. I suspect that the GOP form of objectivism is simply a way of dressing specific elements of protestant theology in a philosophic framework.
PS I am not a professional philosopher/theologian but I play one on the internet.
Wait, Mercer wrote that he rejects it when experts decide what other people should do and only likes it when people make their own decisions, but didn't he become a gozillionaire by being an "expert" whose hedge fund full of other "experts" told other people what they should do with their money because in many/most of the cases, those other people didn't really have any "expertise" for making those decisions? I mean, isn't that how Mercer's whole business model works: we're experts who'll decide for you?
Apparently, contrary to what you might have thought from Milo's saying that predatory ephebophiles are a rite of passage and mentors for gay teenagers, he thinks men who mack on teenagers are bad.
Ryan claims that he did not know of Rand's atheism until years after he became enchanted by her economic "principles." He now disavows her atheism but keeps right on supporting the rest. He also uses (what I understand to be) very, very tendentious readings of Catholic social teachings to get to the same government-aid-hurts-the-poor ends that he came to first with Rand.
Just to be clear, this is in no way an endorsement of the intelligence, reading ability, or integrity of Paul Ryan.

Setauket (where he works) is a really nice town, and deserves better.
Heck... Nissequogue (where he lives) is full of rich twits, but even IT deserves better.

It is a source of unending horror to me that this weasel's Little Shop of Doucheness is located in the very nice town in which I grew up.
Look at you, a-comin' in here with your fancy "logic" and "reasoning" and such!!
*hork*
Dark Side force corruption.
Or perhaps he has one of those alien cockroaches inside like in MIB.
Indeed.

And should be raped in prison by black men.
I do not hesitate to place Ayn Rand, as philosopher and prose-artist, on a level with Hugh Hefner himself.

Pepe frogs?
I'm Leary of suggesting what should happen to the Mercer Klan, er, clan--lest I be Bard from Wonkette.
