Dogs are better than people. They are better than Kristi Noem. Rats are better than Kristi Noem. Lice are better than Kristi Noem. Why do people vote for people who are like Kristi Noem? A louse would make a better governor. pond scum

I'm sensing that you don't like her.

Oh, so it's eff the goats then - is that it?

As a farm kid, it's not the shooting per se that horrifies me. It's the circumstances of it.

No 14-month old dog is "untrainable", they're just dumb. Their brain is literally still developing. Most are still struggling with basics like "come" and "stay". Anyone who takes a 14-month old dog on a *live hunt* and expects anything but disaster is a complete fool. And who the hell lets one run unrestrained on SOMEONE ELSE'S PROPERTY?

Norm put wildly unrealistic expectations on poor Cricket. And rather than blame HERSELF for his failure, she blamed him. And shot him, in anger, because she was embarrassed by her own incompetence. He was a scapegoat for HER failure.

And then, with a rush of blood to the head, she thought, "And fuck that goat too!".

Kristi Noem behaved like a dickhead, exposed herself as a crappy farmer and lousy neighbour, and took her rage at her own shortcomings out on two animals who'd done nothing wrong.

Then she not only convinced herself she'd done a good and reasonable thing - she genuinely expected everyone else would see it that way too.

I know stories tend to mutate over time as they're told and retold, but in the interest of fairness it's not so much that she "let [Cricket] run unrestrained on SOMEONE ELSE'S PROPERTY" as she failed to ensure the dog was not able to escape from the truck. Now, that raises a whole other set of questions as to where the dog was in the truck (cab? bed?) and if there were any restraints on it there, but she didn't deliberately let it out to run around loose in a yard full of chickens.

Other than that, I agree -- anyone who thinks that a dog they're having problems training is going to magically pick up good habits watching the other dogs on a hunt is a grade-A moran.

As a cyclist who has been attacked by dogs, I would say that unless you are actively taking measures to ensure your dog does not run free, you are letting them "run unrestrained." You have a positive responsibility to ensure your dog does not cause trouble. I like dogs fine, though I am a cat person. I am friends with several dogs. But I have to agree with Tosca's characterization.

JCfromNC's avatar

That's reasonable. Personally, since I don't know what she did when she got out of the truck and left the dog behind assuming he wouldn't get out, or whether she even gave any thought as to if the dog was likely to get out of the truck, I'm only willing to go as far as saying she failed to ensure the dog was not going to be running wild. Phrasing it the other way, to me, sounds like a deliberate act rather than an act of negligence. And again, without knowing any facts, I'm not willing to call it a deliberate act.

BUT -- and this is the important point -- SHE IS STILL VERY MUCH AT FAULT HERE. I just want to be clear on that. I'm NOT trying to give her *any* sort of pass.

I see the distinction you were drawing now, thanks.

Ta, Evan. Here's hoping that Noem's political career is deader than Cricket, whose memory will always be a blessing.

Kristi Noem probably shot Bambi's mother, too.

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

So now we need to arm animals.

OK, fine.

BlueSpot's avatar

Well we already have the right to arm bears. :)

I have a photoshop of a panda with a chain-gun, but they, like Trumpists, are more like raccoons.

Sorry to disagree with Moskowitz, but MAGA loves Trump more than they love themselves.

“Dogs are the only thing on earth that loves you more than they love themselves."

Is it truly love when they know we can take them to a gravel pit and blast their brains out if they don't love us?

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

I think that is what they call "tough love."

Trux Mint In Box's avatar

Sorry to be cynical but I can’t help thinking Mace is only doing this in hopes of replacing Noem as a VP choice.

On the other hand, let them fight.

Sherry's avatar

Not cynical at all. That probably isn’t even her dog. I wouldn’t be surprised at all. She’s pretty far up Trumps diapered butt these days.

Noem or MTG whose political future is disintegrating faster? Keep in mind that their political futures were mostly fantasies that their warped minds created,

What about cats? Let's not forget our feline friends.

Helikitty's avatar

Yeah I could give af about dogs but cats > people > dogs > cockroaches > Republicans is how the moral order is structured

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

Noem would not survive a passel of cats.

I prefer to think of them as demanding housemates with benefits.

I thought that was "spouse."

Someone said "if you want a friend in DC, get a dog." Nice to see that friendship goes both ways.

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

If you want to blow your entire political career in DC, on the other hand...

I was going to suggest they expand on these bipartisan efforts by starting the Children Lovers Caucus, you know, they'd be against killing kids, but then I realized that would be a stupendously bad idea with Republicans involved.

At the FDR monument at the Capital, a statue of him and his little terrier dog is watching over him, making sure he does WW II right.
