The judge awarded the family 4 cents, since the victim was 99% responsible. Unfuckingbelievable.

Wow! This country has gone fucking insane. Are you telling me it’s accepted police procedure to shoot at somebody through a closed door? Even If Mr Hill had a gun, how can he be 99% at fault? Who the fuck was on that jury?!

I read about this today and nearly became physically ill, which happens rarely to me.

I have no words beyond that.

This was my same reaction. Thanks for opening this thread, Wonderbitch, because it scrapes my soul to see this happening. It is beyond cruel. I hope some better people help that grieving widow and her children. And i love your posts. Thank you, most kindly.

I'm aware of that, but we are statistically overdue for a supervolcano event -- somewhere, more likely Yellowstone but --

Saw this on a site called 'readersupportednews dot org'. The incident started with a noise complaint. The victim opened his garage door, I guess that was where the music was playing, saw the cops and closed the door. The cops had to shoot him because... well, their chief's claim is that it was a very bad and dangerous situation for the cop and his partner. I didn't read beyond that article because, damn. But I saw nothing about a weapon (that no normal person would fire through their own door at a cop anyway), I saw nothing to show the cop decided on the spot he was drunk - though that was claimed - or anything to show why that would make a threat out of someone who clearly wanted to be left alone in his own residence.Does the family have any property that the state is going to claim and take away from them? I saw part of The Winds of War, and that was kind of the next step.

I can't justify this with any reason for ending his life. Justice must be blindfolded and gagged for this to happen. It makes me sick.

Thank you for expressing my feelings so well. As a white woman living in a well off area I too if extraordinary undeserved privilege and I am horrified and disgusted by this short-term and the thousands more like it.

most black lives are actually quite counter productive, how much would the family be willing to pay the community for it's costs and to make up for sustaining this persons life as long as it did? this is why, and even though we view this differently, we need a better legal system, one that even as the hue and cry of victimhood for cash wails on, when it can be proven, that those seeking a big pay day could find themselves taxed for the burden the taxpayers incurred on balance.
