it's going to be that kind of day Tuesday, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a 37-year-old black man named Alton Sterling was selling CDs. Police found a gun in his pocket, after they restrained him and shot him point blank in the back and the chest. There is video at the link above; I don't feel like having a murder on this page today.
Yeah! What she said! Exactly! I've met wonderful cops and I've met cops that shouldn't be cops. If we want justice that is fairly applied and doesn't enrage the populace, the departments have to do a better job of distinguishing between them.
It sure seems that almost all of the 'good apples' will not report the bad apples, not even for murder. In fact it seems a whole lot of the 'good apples' will lie to clear the bad apples.
Until that happens, I'm going to be pretty negative - even about the 'good apples.
Ok, not sure if this was mentioned specifically, and I'm too lazy to scroll all the way, but the reason why the "he's no altar boy" bullshit is trotted out is because the fuckwits spewing it have an extremely good chance of it being true. Why? Because intitionally racist policies and the media confirmation bias.
It's impossible to avoid these type of videos though. Feel sorry for parents having to explain them to their children.Feel awful for the families mourning loved ones killed by the police. This story just never ends.
I think that some of those psychological tests are probably effective at identifying traits of folks that none of us wants carrying a gun around everyday. But I'm not sure that I trust those tests. There is a mix of inner strength, calmness, courage, generosity, humility, kindness, and intelligence that we'd all love to see in every LE office out there, But I fear that the people who are well-endowed with all those traits are rare.. not just in our LE ranks, but in our populace at large. We want and expect almost super-human characteristics in our LE people, and I'm not sure (1) we can find them in standardized test (2) there are that many of us who could meet that standard. And then in places where those super-human traits aren't even remotely a goal.. well... crap...
Please review the rules.

At this moment, I hate fucking everything.
Apparently, conservatives are all for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, as long as you are not a black man selling CDs.

I am there with you. I was wailing last night and I quite deliberately did not watch the video. Lord, have mercy.
Not . Making . Things . Better.

That was god-awful, wasn't it?

parity world tow ways. i wasn't calling for more shooting of police officers, but fewer of others.
sorry, doc, but parity works both ways. i wasn't calling for more shooting of police officers, but fewer of others.
So the gun is just a canard post hoc for killing him.
Wayne LaPierre's paradise, then
That's the assumption I made about your post.
