Good morning, Wonketariar! I’m enjoying a respite here in Ohio visiting friends, who live in Kent. I mistook two deer for yard decorations when I arrived Thursday night. I’m enjoying the time away.
We saw her with Silkroad Ensemble when they were doing American Railroad in … 2024, just a couple of weeks post-apocalypse. That’s when she announced the launch of Biscuits & Banjos, which started as a weekend-long festival, but this year got condensed to a single concert featuring Mavis Staples. I was really kind of surprised they didn’t do Freedom Highway, since Mavis wrote it and Rhiannon did a stunning cover of it (as the title track for one of her studio albums, possibly her first solo album).
Most people around here discovered her when she was a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops (she’s a Greensboro, NC native). I was late to the party and didn’t pick up on her until she did a guest appearance on the Shamrock City album by Solas that came out in 2012. She was the lead vocal on “Lay Your Money Down”, and when I heard it, I *had* to know who this singer was… turned out she’d been right under my nose for years.
I have a confession. This one time, attending a city council meeting, I yelled "NO!" at a volume and intensity my better half later told me was frightening. I did this immediately in response to the city attorney, during a "redevelopment" presentation, raising the possibility of using eminent domain against my neighbors and me to hand our homes over to greedhead developers.
We got outta there, but eventually, the city bought out our historic neighborhood, tore down all the homes, and then the planned development fizzled. This was 20-some years ago. Far as I know, nothing's been built there since. They shoulda listened!

Our Liz Dye calls them LOLsuits and LOLyers. They have hollowed out the DOJ to nothing but attorneys who will do exactly what TODD tells them to do ... whether the case has merit or not. The judges, including Trump appointees, have removed any presumption of regularity from the DOJ attorneys, ie. they can't trust them to be presenting factual evidence. It's a huge danger to the rule of law.
