Yeah, that's kind of my thought. The one thing you can't gerrymander is the whole state's population and representative count.

<i>"If James Madison had asked me, and I had been there, I would have said a popular vote is a better way to do it."</i>

The Founders were suspicious of popular vote and protective of state prerogatives. Senators were selected by some or most state legislatures until the 17th Amendment required direct election. I would think this falls more in the category of "Oh sure, we have a black guy too!" or "We love the hispanicals! See? Marco Rubio!!"

It's all window dressing.

Why would we suddenly believe something they say, when most of what they have said at any other time has been utterly false bullshit? Oh, because it sounds sane and reasonable!

BUT, BUT... THE SHINY NEW LABEL ON THIS SHIT SANDWICH LOOKS QUITE DELICIOUS!

I would not rush to ascribe good motives. Romney lost the Cuban vote in 2012, the Puerto Rican vote, especially strong in the I-4 corridor, and a search party is being organized for Romney's Black voters. The Polk County and Panhandle cracker vote isn't going to cut it.

The political calculus is that the Democratic presidential candidate will then campaign in close Congressional districts that otherwise wouldn't really be contested costing the Repubican money to fight back. And the Go-Pee'er might lose as, say, Hillary turns out her supporters.

Instead of figuring out how to bend the Electoral College away from the popular vote, every state legislature should be joining the <a href="http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact" target="_blank">Interstate Compact</a>.

You don't need to say "Republicans" and "exposed". They generally self-expose, usually with a rent-boy.
