If you can get your hands on an KN95 mask, you def should.

The cloth masks are good enough for protecting others from your potentially infectious breath and if enough people wear them, it will slow or, combined with social distancing maybe even stop, the spread of the pandemic, but it will not protect YOU specifically from other unmasked, infectious people breathing down your face or neck. The KN95 mask will stop the virus from getting in, not just from it getting out, so If you live in an area with a lot of idiots, who won't wear masks or social distance, yeah... wear a KN95 mask to stores if you can. Good on you that you did get your hand on one.

Just avoid touching the outside of the mask at the store (no matter what mask), and if you use it more than one time, think of a way to store it so the outside doesn't come into contact with anything, like put it in a separate bag and just keep it in the car. Wash/sanitize your hands immediately after you take it off and after you leave the store. If you do that, and avoid touching other parts of your body with your hands before you have sanitized/washed them again, imho you don't actually need gloves. Even with gloves you still have to watch not touching any other part of your body/face/mask. And if anything is on the surface of the stuff you buy, it would still be there when you take it home, gloves or not. You'd also have to wash/sanitize your hands immediately after taking of the gloves, lest you contaminated your hands with the stuff on the gloves. Imho all they do is add an extra (kind of unnecessary step that just creates a lot of rubbish). So I wouldn't be too worried about the gloves. Just wash/sanitize your hands again after putting everything away at home (then let it sit for a bit before you use any of it, cause the virus does not survive on surfaces that long).

Gloves do not replace any of the necessary hand hygiene steps in any kind of way. when you think they do, all you get is a false sense of security.

As much as I admire Stephen, and he is rapidly becoming my second-favorite American writer after Mark Twain, I have spotted other by-lines here of late.

Liz and Evan and Dok and Robyn and Editrix herself.

None of whom are chopped canned clams.

here's the problem, 99% of meat packing plant employees don't want the factory to open, and 99% of meat packing plant owners and shareholders do want the factory to open. guess who donates money to politicians and votes every time.

As I mentioned, the KN95 mask fell apart instantly. Before I could even put it on.

I'm looking to see if I can somehow superglue the connections together because it is obvious that the connection that didn't fall apart instantly is headed that way because bad design.

Sigh.

Thanks for your advice. It gives me some idea of how to go from here.

I wish the press had properly represented all those protestors as very small but noisy groups - it perpetrated this idea that they were a sizable group when they weren’t

#NotAllRepublicans. Republican Gov Phil Scott of deep-azure Vermont, home of Bernie Sanders and Pat Leahy, was smart enough to clamp down hard and early. We now get about 3 new cases per day in a state with a population of 600 k, and he's starting very, very gradually letting the pressure off, which under the circumstances makes lots of sense.
