I think about how the pandemic began, how those in charge sought to downplay, deny, mislead, and profit mightily from the deaths of so many men, women and children in their own nation. I have not forgotten. I am struggling with forgiveness, which is to benefit me, not them. I am not there yet, and I don't know if I ever will be. How many of us lost friends and family to Covid? To the overwhelmed healthcare "system" not being there for people suffering from other diseases and conditions, resulting in their deaths, too?

I think about how their widespread practice of harnessing fear and anger to amass power, the widespread racism, sexism, and attendant phobias, the using of religion as a fig leaf for their crimes--yes it is true that people of any political persuasion can practice hatred--led to widespread political blight on millions of lives.

Their crimes against humanity should have them all in front of a firing squad. And now their henchmen and -women are running House committees. Brooks and Bedbug deserve all the scorn and contempt for their conservative "thoughts." If history remembers them at all, I hope it is will utter condemnation.

I recently called the NYT to cancel my subscription. They asked for a reason and I said that I never wanted to see anything David Brooks wrote again for the rest of my life. But, you're correct, Brett Stephens is far worse.

The fact that these two, and people like the Lincoln Project founders, still cling to the idea that Reagan was a "good" Republican -- or leader or whatnot -- is grotesque. They all assume the posture of outraged conservative intellectuals, without ever examining whether or not their foundational ideas have any merit or humanity.

Of course, Brooks did change his mind about one thing. He gave up Judaism to join the church of obscenely rich, woman-hating pedophiles -- the Catholics.

That none of these displaced Republicans accept any blame for stoking the fires that led to the current conflagration is even worse than their boner for old cowboys and half-baked and cruelty.

I would quit my PBS membership, too, so that I never had to contribute one cent to David Brooks and his appearances on News Hour, but I like Ken Burns too much.

I read that until the point where Stephens compared Harris unfavorably to Palin. There is zero evidence in favor of that position and truckloads of it pointing to Palin's idiocy so Stephen's cred flew out the window like a bullet. David has spent the last 20 years blaming all of America for where the Republican party is. He's touched upon every trope, like "economic anxiety," that he could get his hands on. Literally attempting to blame Democrats for the hatred and cruelty emanating from his own party. Even in this article there is a lot of that bullshit going on. Fuck Stephens but Brooks gets a little more space from me. I've watched him every Friday, first with Mark Shields and now with Jonathen Capehart, for a lot of years. He's an elite, pompous ass but he seems like a reasonably good person.

BTW, he foreshadowed this article last Friday. Kind of said he was done with the GOP.

"For decades, conservative values have been central to Bret Stephens’s and David Brooks’s political beliefs, and the Republican Party was the vehicle to extend those beliefs into policy. But in recent years, both the party and a radicalized conservative movement have left them feeling alienated in various ways."

So this is the far right version of a couple of poseur teenage goth chicks going on Tik Tok and trying to read all the cool kids?
