"The biggest mistake of his administration", and that is a pretty high bar.

Must Trump and his dumbass cult continue making the worst people look like they understand things?

Although I would be extremely happy with more heel-turns. But as Twain said, you can't make a man understand something when his paycheck depends on not understanding it.

Maybe Rachel will get a little ride on the high hard one tonight. All that Russia, Russia, Russia talk is sure to get Sean's little warfighter all het up.

Thanks Evan. And thanks for the link to the Timothy Snyder piece. Damn.

I believe I saw the Feculant Fraudster denying that any of the fuel in the "diesel deal" was going to come to the US, but be sold on the global market. This is in direct contradiction to every thing else he has ever said about this treasonous "deal" - and it makes it even more unlikely that it will result in ANY reduction in price of diesel in the US.

This absolute dotard really think we all have the memory that he does - i.e., none.

Are Duffy- Campos couple real Americans? The show The Americans made Russian operatives pretending to be Americans seem plausible.

So now Elon Musk is tampering with his Starlink system to handicap Ukraine awareness of and response to Russian drone attacks. Meddling in foreign policy is, I think a whooping. Maybe even Treason.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Luckily, Europe's stepping up. They don't need no stinking Starlink.

beb's avatar

Europe is not at war so it doesn't matter as much to them if Musk cuts off Starlink to them. Ukraine is at war and depend heavily on starlink. Musk's action means they are fighting, now, with one arm tied behind their back.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Europe's providing satellite and internet connections through their systems, independent of Starlink and America. Everyone's moving away from us.

beb's avatar

Europe doesn't have nearly the satellite coverage as Starlink -- at this moment! Ukraine heavily depends on Starlink communications for guidance of their drones. Musk meddling with their Starlink communications is making it hard for Ukraine to field their drone fleets but to shield from Russia missiles and to attack Russian soldiers. At this moment that is no good replacement for Starlink, which is why Musk's meddling is so serious. He sold them a service, got them dependent on that service and now he's taking it away.

As a private citizen would I have legal standing to sue him for treason? Or, if 10,000, a million or 7 million citizens filed a lawsuit, would they have standing?

tim gueguen's avatar

Good question. Under US criminal law Musk can't be charged with treason because he isn't giving aid and comfort to an enemy in time of war. The US isn't at war with Russia. But the requirements for judgement in a civil suit follow looser requirements.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Unless he was acting on orders from a government official that was connected in some way to a Starlink-related government contract, it's no different than Nixon conspiring with the North Vietnamese and Reagan conspiring with the Iranians. A private citizen interfering with America's ability to conduct its foreign policy.

That's a paddlin'.

His company, Starlink, cut off service providing intelligence to Ukraine, within hours of Trump threatening to cut off US support if Ukraine drones attacked Russian refineries. Even ‘tho US sanctions legally prohibit Russian refineries from exporting diesel to the USA. And Trump made a deal for Russia to export diesel to the USA.

NPR Morning Edition interview this a.m. with Richard Haass, president emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations and a principal adviser to the secretary of state during the George W. Bush administration:

Haass: Well, the president made this deal to get a small amount of diesel fuel out of Russia. It will have negligible, if any, impact on the price of diesel, which is over $6.50 a gallon nationwide. It's up - what? - 70% since the Iran war began. And that's the bottom line. Diesel is sky-high. The price has spiked because of the president's war in Iran. But what he's doing instead is blaming the Ukrainians, who are attacking Russian energy infrastructure. It's one of the few things they can do to put any pressure on Russia in retaliation for their attacks. And what we've done is weakened economic sanctions and any pressure against Vladimir Putin. So again, it will have no impact on prices here, but it will have an impact on this war.

Why would the United States help Russia? We're in the land of speculation here. We have no evidence 'cause it makes no strategic sense. It makes no ethical or moral sense. . . . . . What I do know, what you know, what we all know - anyone listening to this knows - is the United States is tilting towards Russia, away from Ukraine. And that is morally and strategically bankrupt for this country."

TIL 'dicknotized' (my preference), 'dicknatized', and 'dickmatized' (most popular) are all commonly accepted spellings of the word. non-Merica English speaking types prefer swapping the 'z' for an 's' for reasons. using a hyphen is just weird. please update Wonkette Stylebook.

The bar is very low on conservatives showing honesty and courage, but it reminds me a bit of the infamous John McCain town hall in 2008 when he told two delusional Fox News junkies that Barack Obama was not an Arab extremist, he was “a decent family man and American who I happen to disagree with on fundamental issues.” Sometimes, you have to call a strike a strike, and commend people you don’t like for being either right or going against the herd mentality. Kilmeade at least must be following Fox News policy that “Russia good” is a bridge too far.

McCain was a true war hero and was part of the old Reagan conservative movement that Trumpism came to hate. That version of conservative politics was bad enough, but there is almost no daylight between Trumpism and fascism. ANY show of compromise or disagreement with Trump and you are a RINO and must be destroyed. McCain knew Trump wasn’t a decent man. He knew Obama was. And virtually his last, dying act in Congress was to downvote the “repeal and do nothing” bill to destroy Obamacare. One last F U to Trump and his cronies.

Well, since Zelensky blew up Russia's bot generation facilities, somebody has to take up the slack, and it's Comrade Rachel Campos-Duffy to the front. I wouldn't blame her for being cheesed about being the designated liar on Fox, though.

The diesel deal is the no cent dent in transportation costs. But a massive price to pay in earned respect.
