Issue one: I am the same age as him and I cannot imagine feeling I had enough shit together to run for president.

Issue two: I hope he makes it to Super Tuesday at least. Just the sheer normalizing effect of having a gay man out there campaigning is incalculable.

I hope his weird ass name is on the primary ballot by the time it all comes around to NC, because I am going to fucking vote for him.

I'd forgotten he was gay. I was seeing him as a sensible pragmatic liberal, who was actually trying to explain what all the progressive liberals wanted to accomplish but never got around to discussing the details.

but what about the howls that the government can never do anything right? and that millions of jobs will be lost? we can get there from here without detailing how things will work.

trump blew-up the whole political playing field. The old "norms" of who gets to be president no longer apply. So of course the scary-smart, super-engaged gay mayor of West Bend can be president!

What about them? Same howls with Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid and the howlers can't live without those OR the ACA.

They'll be complaining that Medicare For All doesn't cover ENOUGH before long.

Huh. I saw "boot-edge-edge" in an article earlier today. I like "booty judge" better.

He has that effect on people. I heard a podcast a couple weeks ago and was sold.

Shortly after, my daughter and later a coworker asked if I'd heard of him because they'd stumbled upon an interview and were instantly impressed.

I'd been hoping for a dark horse... and here he is. "They" say he doesn't have a chance, which is a sensible assumption, but he sure has a knack for winning hearts and minds quickly.

I loved Beto when he was running for Senate, but he doesn't have the vision, drive, and contemplative heft to be president. Yet people seem to expect he'll be a contender. Buttigieg has what Beto lacks and more... and a background that will win trust and votes in the heartland. I'd love to see him step into the Beto placeholder.

Wish I could give this a million upvotes.

The man on the street doesn't understand that a lot of smart people in a lot of countries have devised healthcare systems that work better than ours--AND they did it because they understand health, healthcare, and costs, NOT because they're commies itching to kneel at football games and send capitalists to Stalinist death camps.

Seriously, the average Joe thinks universal health care is a wild and reckless new idea. Even a lot of House idiots think that. It's American insularity. I wish they could be taught UHC is the norm for developed countries and it's done because IT WORKS and LOWERS HEALTHCARE COSTS, not for political or ideological reasons.

We're so stupid. The people who lose their minds over Obamacare don't even know what they want. Why can't they listen to the experts who know this shit inside out, instead of letting people rot to spite the Dems?

Even here on Wonkette. It’s as if people feel like they don’t deserve good affordable healthcare. People are seriously brainwashed on this issue.

Not only that, Medicare has a 3% overhead. Private insurance companies are limited (by Obamacare) to 20% overhead, for profit, advertising, CEO's exorbitant compensation, etc.

I am terrible at math, but that seems like a 17% savings, right off the top.
