When we were in Colombia adopting Mild Jr we visited someone with a pet capybara, or chiquiro (what they're called in Colombia). I got to pet it, the fur was kind of coarse.
That adorable creature is calming me down because the rest of the tabs have me wanting to kick some serious ass - and I’m being polite and within the rules and shit.
A Nebraska representative is sponsoring a school voucher bill? To put that in perspective: Nebraska is one of 5 states without charter schools. Voters rejected ballot initiatives for school vouchers TWICE. The first time, funding for school vouchers was a ballot measure that got rejected. The second time, the legislature tried to run school voucher funding through the treasurer's office so it couldn't be subjected to a repeal by ballot initiative. There was a lawsuit, and the Nebraska supreme court was like, no, you have to put it on the ballot. And then voters rejected voucher funding again. So he saw an issue that was soundly rejected in his home state (twice! And despite the legislature trying to circumvent the will of the voters!) and was like, let's take this national baby. Clown
Merrick Garland's slow dragging of the January 6th cases and the Trump cases is one of the reasons so many people feel that Biden has been a failure as President. We expect an aggressive DOJ, not one that kowtows to people who are rich or powerful.
Jimmy Carter was a REAL Evangelical of the "Good News" persuasion. There was an internet war fought with the Fundamentalists for the E-word, which they won by sheer force of stupid numbers, as they do. Fundamentalism has been a track since forever, but you can still read about the actual Good News personally for yourself.
San Diego? Funny, I am just now reading the first of Mary Lasswell's novels, set in San Diego during the war, about three poverty-stricken old ladies who move in together at Mrs. Feely's
junkyard, brought together by a common enthusiasm for cold beer. Ms. Lasswell wrote five sequels to this first, "Suds In Your Eye", following the perils and joys of Mrs. Feely, Mrs. Rasmussen and Miss Tinkham. My parents used to read these books aloud during our annual long car trips (Sarasota, the Octagon house a/k/a Nutt's Folly near Natchez and the Badlands. These three cheerful old ladies are good company, and I recommend them to you all.
So I'm gonna be fostering my 17yo nephew's dog for a while. His schooling & his welding internship means he's not going to be able to care for the Very Good Boy properly, and his mom (my sister) is having 4 surgeries over the next year, so she's going to have trouble doing it, too. (The Very Good Boy lives with them both, obv.) It may be a year or more, though Nephew may also bring VGB home over the summer & back in the fall for a while more. Nephew was hoping for a home closer to them; but knows he can trust Auntie, and since this is a foster, not a forever home, he'll get his beloved boy back when things settle down again
My 8yo will be ecstatic at the thought; she's been daydreaming of doggies for years now. Sis has promised to keep paying for VGB's food, which was the main reason why we don't have one of our own. VGB's a therapy dog, too, and very good with AuDHD kids in particular so could help my 11yo with his nerves about dogs. Barking ones scare him, but he can handle his teacher's therapy dog & VGB almost never barks, unless he's being attacked by another dog. VGB is also a bit scared of cats, 'cause Sister's is pretty temperamental, so he won't hurt my trio. I do need to get my trio used to eating at elevated places (VGB has some faults, like eating any unattended food in reach)
Not sure where to insert this...for a San Diego Wonk Party... inside... February usually, hard to say about this yr, we have rain. And snow for me...hate ❄️.
On the subject of sports law, are there any state-level bills that aim to ban or at least severely restrict tackle football, boxing, or other TBI-heavy sports for minors? Or are our legislators fine with a large number of boys and young men getting permanent neurological damage before they're even eligible to vote?
The case Kacsmaryk ruled on was NOT about releasing the Special Counsel's report on the Jan 6th case against TFG. It was in response to an FOIA request from Ken Paxton for all of the Special Counsel's investigative notes, etc., and a request for an injunction for the Special Counsel's office to preserve all those notes, etc. Kacsmaryk turned that request down.
It was good to see that the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals slapped Cannon's peepee over her attempt to block the release of info on the classified documents case, but initial release is only to Congress. Public release can be blocked until the cases against TFG's co-conspirators are settled ( altho' one can always hope that some Congressperson will "leak" it.
"I do want to have a fondue feast in an igloo, Switzerland!"
Dammit, there's no YouTube clip of the magnificent Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players performing one of their finest songs, "Fondue Friends in Switzerland." But you can find it on Spotify. [Edit]: Oh crap, it's not even on Spotify anymore! {Edit 2]: Ah, well it IS on Apple Music.
I kind of wish that Merchan would have given him one day in jail, and a $1 fine. Symbolic, but important. "But he promised not to!" ... and Trump would have gotten to feel how it feels to be lied to.
NOW he's a Convicted Felon!! He, and especially his minions, can't claim otherwise. He/they MUST be seething and spreading the ketchup today. It made zero sense to think SCROTUS would have allowed him to go to Prison. And it made even less sense to postpone sentencing until he's left the WH in 4 years....he might never walk out of the WH (God forbid??). Try refinancing your roach-infested golf courses now!!
Closing up the workweek with some Tupi gifage, because you deserve a little baby capybara in your feed. Info here: https://open.substack.com/pub/martiniambassador/p/tupy-the-baby-capy

Sweet gif Martini. My bride and I have two new grandbabbies coming from Columbia in March.
Aww! I’m so happy to hear that. 😍

"Ma? I'm going to jump into some lunch!"
"Take your shoes off first"
Thanks Martini!
I would write a nifty poem about capybaras sweet
But as of now my Georgia hills are covering in sleet
It's a day for fresh hot coffee
And shortbread cookie treats
I walked Ole Tater and now it's time
To crawl back in the sheets
I’m sure sweet Tater would be happy to cuddle up with you.
I've seen Me and Tater snuggling on the couch, and I have to admit it's one of the sweetest things I've ever seen. They truly adore each other.
Aww! 🥰
He is weirded out by all of this.
I imagine snow is pretty rare where you are.
We used to see more in the Piedmont and Appalachian regions. Climate change has made significant snow accumulation rare.
Is that pappybara or mammybara with babybara?
Squee!!!!!!!!!
(keels over from the cuteness)
Capybaras are the sweetest creatures and that wee fluffy, sleepy bebe is just TOO precious!

I almost missed Tabs! For some reason, I'm not getting it in my inbox anymore. I'm so glad I came to see the baby capybara!

Melania didn't look too good at the Carter funeral.
She looked miserable, even for a funeral attendee. Especially when Trump and Obama were giggling away
I Don't Care, Do You?
Being married to a shambling hemorrhoid can certainly age you.

All these headline writin' motherfuckers...
The Felon's conviction has been 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 for awhile. Having a sentencing hearing doesn't make it more so.
He won't be 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 "The first convicted felon to be President" until he 𝘪𝘴 president, officially.
Why is "The first felon elected to the office." so hard?
"A ban on trans children playing sports is going to come down to the wire in the Senate, Erin Reed says."
These bigoted fucks. Did NONE OF THEM see John Lithgow as former football player Roberta Muldoon in "Garp'?

My comment RE: Trump's sentence: it appears that "Unconditional discharge" got him into this trouble in the first place.
I kind of wish that Merchan would have given him one day in jail, and a $1 fine. Symbolic, but important. "But he promised not to!" ... and Trump would have gotten to feel how it feels to be lied to.
That would be acceptable to me. I guess the Judge felt otherwise, even after all Trump's verbal abuse and lies. Pay your dues, just a little bit.
Judge Merchan can go to hell with the rest of them.
